BEV stands for Battery Electric Vehicle. It is an alternative to fossil fuel driven vehicles. It is simple in construction.

n. Calm and quiet on road. Eco-friendly.

An electric car is powered by an electric motor rather than a conventional fossil fuel engine. Range of this car is about 50 miles (80km). It reaches 0 to 60 mph speed in just about 50 seconds. It takes about Kwh of electricity to charge the car after a 50 mile trip.

The battery has to be replaced after 3-4 years.

The conventional engine along with the muffler, catalytic converter, tail pipe and fuel tank are to be removed. Clutch assembly should be removed and existing manual transmission should be kept in place. New AC electric motor should be bolted to the transmission with an adapter plate. An electric controller should be added to control the AC motor.

A battery tray should be installed on the floor of the car.

To power the accessories and auxiliary parts separate electric motor should be installed. Here manual transmission can also be replaced with a switch disguised as a automatic transmission shifter to control forward and reverse movement. A battery charger is added and the gas gauge is replaced with a voltmeter.

Rechargeable Battery

Electric motor is the heart of the vehicle.

The electric motor gets power from the controller. The controller gets its power from an array of rechargeable batteries.

Electric cars can use AC or DC motor . If the motor is DC motor then it may run on anything from 96 to 192 volts. DC installation tend to be simpler and less expensive. A typical motor will be in 20-30 KW range. A typical control will be used , having a range of 40-60 KW. If it is AC motor, then it may run at anything from 240 to 300 volts.

Controller takes power from the battery and delivers it to the motor. The accelerator pedal hooks to a pair of potentiometers (variable resistors), this provide the signal to the controller that tell the controller how much power it is supposed to deliver.

Controller reads both the potentiometer and make sure that their signals are equal. If not then the controller does not operate. The controller can be of AC or DC type.
The DC controller using very large transistors that rapidly turn the batteries on and off to create a sine wave can be used to operate a AC motor.

Controller reads the setting of the accelerator pedal from the potentiometer and regulates the power accordingly.

Lead Acid Batteries Eight to twenty-five 12 volt lead acid batteries need to be placed in the battery tray according to the requirement in order to connect in series. Drawbacks They are heavy (around 500kg ). They are bulky (typical size is 6 * 8 * 6). They have limited capacity. They are slow to charge (8-10 hours). Short life time (3-4 years). They are expensive.

This system has 120 or 240 volt source from normal electrical outlet.

Charging time is 4-5 hrs for 240 volts supply and 9-10hrs for 120 volt supply.

Uses an inductive pedal. 240 volt charging system. Pedal acts as one half of transformer and another half is inside the car. Position around the slot behind the license plate. No exposed electrical contacts.

Normal Charging

Magna-Charging

No reciprocating parts. High starting acceleration and speed. Low maintenance cost. Silent in operation.

Free from vibration.

No exhaust gases. No starting difficulty.

Simple in construction and less working parts.

CONCLUSION
Though it is a very good project but needs a quantitative start. Cost will definitely decrease if mass production will occur. Ultimately nature needs it.
