HALAL PRODUCT VERIFICATION USING BARCODE SCANNER APPLICATION ON ANDROID SMARTPHONE FOR MALAYSIAN MARKET

Halal industry has been the fastest growing global business and Malaysia is on its way to set up the worlds first development corporation in making halal its major focus. However, Muslim consumer still faces problem in identifying and verifying the halal products in the industries. One of the approaches to verify halal product in a faster way is by using mobile or Smartphone gadget. MyHalal Scanner uses this new technology gadget together with camera and barcode readers that can be used to identify and verified the information of the products or the halal status faster and reliable to the consumer on time while they are shopping. MyHalal Scanner was developed in Android platform because of its features such as openness, equal for all applications, quick and easy development, and application freedom (no boundaries). This application runs on Android 2.1 and can be used at higher API level. User can easily scan barcode of products or even search via database. One of the features in this application enables user to contact directly to companies and even JAKIM offices. The features of this application hopefully would ease and benefit especially to Muslim consumers.

Providing a Smartphone application to help consumers verify halal status straight from product barcodes on time without time constraint. The existing halal applications cost users with data charges for each product verification. MyHalal Scanner will cross-check barcodes with its own halal database and therefore no data charges will be charged on user.

To develop a halal product database structure based on halal product and status categories. To design mobile access system through Smartphone algorithm and verification on the halal product database without accessing network.
