The blue represents the beaches and skies of Puerto Rico. The recreational sailing sloop symbolizes the recreational boating of the region. The Silver waves represent the waves of the sea. The shells symbolize those used by the Apostle James, who was the patron of the town in its beginning. They are eight because they represent the eight districts of Fajardo. The mesh covering, symbolizes the cast net used by coastal fishermen in their fishing operations; product it most abundant in that region of the coast.

On the East Coast of Puerto Rico Inbetween Llano Costanero del Norte and La Sierra de Luquillo

Topography
Most of the land is flat and has raised portions which are branches that are derived from the Sierra de Luquillo, which range between 200 and 500 meters high.

Hydrography
This town is bathed in the river Fajardo, which, which has as streams such as Juan Diego, Aguas Buenas and Martha Round.

This body of water extends 15 miles and forms in the neighborhood Rio Ababjo in Ceiba. La Quebrada Fajardo and Water gaps Prietas and Grande are also parts of the hydrographic system.

History
It was founded as a town in 1760 by Spanish Governor Bravo de Rivera. In 1772 he was appointed as Santiago de Fajardo and elected Bishop Parish Capital in 1774. It is believed that Don Guozo Caldern is the founding governor of Fajardo On the October 19, 1812 the first city council was installed to direct the destinies of Fajardo

Fajardo's economy has traditionally been oriented towards trade through the port, the cultivation of sugar cane and livestock. In 1882, teacher Sarroya had established a school, and two years later founded the first two newspapers, The Zumbador and La Voz del Oriente In 1905 saw the founding of the Central de Fajardo, a company that would be most important to the local economy until it closed in 1977.

General Antonio Valero de Bernab
Born in Fajardo on October 26, 1790. He studied at the Military Academy in Madrid. When he was 17, Napoleon Bonaparte persuaded the King Carlos IV of Spain to allow him to enter with their armies to the kingdom and from there attack Portugal.

He fought alongside the Mexican forces commanded by Agustn de Iturbide. By winning, he was appointed Chief of Staff and Army regulations drafted. In 1823 went to Venezuela, where he joined the struggle for independence in South America. He was appointed second in command of the Department of Panama, military governor of Puerto Cabello, Chief of Staff of the Army of Colombia, Minister of War and Navy of Venezuela

General Antonio Valero de Bernab


He was one of the founders of the Liberal Party Venezuelan. He had to leave for a while in that country by disagreeing with the policy of his old comrade in arms, President Jos Antonio Pez. In 1860 he traveled to Colombia and was put in command of the First Army Division. He died in Bogot on June 7, 1863

Antonio R. Barcel
Lawyer and politician. Born in Fajardo on April 15, 1868. In 1889 he served as secretary of the Comitt Autonomista Fajardo. He held the office of municipal judge of Fajardo

Antonio R. Barcel
On October 1, 1899 signed, along with Luis Muoz Rivera and other Puerto Ricans, a manifesto announcing the founding of a new party, the Federal Party policy. In 1906 he won the election for the House of Delegates, representing the district of Humacao. He was reelected in 1910 and 1912. 1914 took part, along with Luis Muoz Rivera and Jos de Diego, of a commission to try to establish a partnership between the Union Party and the Republican Party

Antonio R. Barcel
First president of the Senate of Puerto Rico Tanks to the efforts of Barcel, in 1922 in the House of Representatives of the United States a bill appeared that provided for in Puerto Rico will elect the governor by a vote of legislators Puerto Ricans. On March 6, 1924, he concluded with the Puerto Rican Republican Party chairman, Jos Tous Soto the bases of an agreement between that party and the Union of Puerto Rico. Both signed a manifesto declaring that Puerto Rico was inextricably associated with the United States and, for the moment, was not concerned about the final status of the island.

Dr. Antonia Coello de Novelo


Born in 1944 in Fajardo, Puerto Rico with the name Antonia Coello and studied at the University of Puerto Rico. She received his undergraduate degree in science and a PhD.

joined the Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service of the United States Worked with the National Institute of Health as Deputy Director of AIDS Research at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. 1989, was the first woman, the first Puerto Rican and the first Hispanic to hold the position of Surgeon General of the United States.

Dr. Antonia Coello de Novelo


In 1994 she was appointed to the National Women `s Hall of Fame. In 1997, Novello participated in a radio program in Puerto Rico on the AIDS crisis in their home island. Dr. Novello has also written a book on Latino health.

Cathedral Santiago Apstol The parish was established in 1766 Was the first church building was completed in 1776. It was destroyed by an earthquake in 1867. It became a cathedral church when Pope Benedict XVI established d the Diocese of Fajardo-Humacao on March 11, 2008.
