2. EVOLUTION

SCADA was first introduced in Singapore in

the year 1966 Earlier, a telephony Relay Based System was used to provide a remote monitoring of 66 kv network and all major 22 kv substations In 1979, with the introduction of 230 kv network SCADA was commissioned to supervise & control the entire power system

4.BASIC ELEMENTS OF SCADA SYSTEM

RTU-It collects information at a site. This information may
be analog inputs, status, accumulator inputs. It also have serial interface capability to communicate with electronic devices. Communication- The communication from RTU to PC & vice versa is through Data cable, wire or Optical fibre. MMI- It provides a link between operator and the software/hardware used to control the power system. The interface is generally a colour graphic display system.

5.REAL-TIME MONITORING & CONTROLLING OF AN ELECTRIC POWER SYSTEM

6.DATA ACQUISITION SYSTEM

DAS provides a supporting role to the application
software in a control center. It collects Raw data from the selected points in the power system and convert them into engineering units. DAS software contains programs to calculate periodically the efficiency of equipments like Generator, Turbine & Boiler etc. DAS employs distributed system configuration for modern power plants.

7.BENEFITS
i. ii. iii. iv. v. vi.
Remote Network control & monitoring Alarm alert of impending equipment mal function Network overview via. Semi graphic MMI Power factor correction Historical Data collection Sequence of events can time tag events that have occurred at an RTU to a resolution of +\- one millisecond vii. When works are to be carried out on any circuit , that circuit can be tagged in the system to mark its unavailability for service viii. SCADA helps in recording & forecasting Load

8.IMPLEMENTATION OF SCADA IN HYDRO POWER PLANT

Control panels Panels were made in the form of enclosed logical parts
of the process displayed on particular control panels Push Button objects are used for selection between the controlled parts of the process to see the details of the process In the lower part of the panel, the basic values which are important for running of particular units are displayed

All control algorithms are executed on the

PLCs The most remote unit PLC6 controls the opening of water supply gates Communication of SCADA with PLCs which control the process is done using fibre optics working with SINEC HI protocol An Application Communication Server is to be installed in the computer which helps SCADA to communicate with the communication processors of PLCs

9.CONCLUSION
Finally , SCADA helps in increasing the capacity
utilization in generation, saving in energy & also raw materials due to increased efficiency So, SCADA can control the entire POWER SYSTEM from a remote control center The ultimate aim of SCADA system is effective utilization of electrical energy Present Applications Future Developments
