Background History

MTN internal development started in 1994 Initial MTN solution known as CELL Q&A CELL Q&A used right across MTN from 1995 - 1999 This system continually upgraded - very strong focus to meet the exact needs of engineers & managers inside a NETWORK OPERATOR
-

Key points:
CELL Q&A very feature-rich Well proven solution Met full needs of Operator, very powerful engineering functionality Delivers huge benefits to MTN by being on everyones desk

CELL Q&A OPTIMA

MTN & AIRCOM integrate CELL Q&A PE with planned
network topology & powerful Enterprise GIS

Key drivers for MTN:

Have integrated solution Re-design to provide MULTI-VENDOR PE capability Take internal development - to full commercial, future-proof product

Key drivers for AIRCOM:

To have best-in-class PE system integrated into Enterprise.

Creating & Configuring a new Project

Project Name Map Projection

Specifies the conversion algorithm used to convert from spherical (LatLong) to Cartesian (X-Y grid) coordinates Takes into account that the Earth is not spherical, but more ellipsoid in shape by offering corrections to the Map Projection algorithm Use when the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) projection is chosen. Divides the world into 60 zones, each covering 6 degrees of arc

Ellipsoid

Map data directories

Mapping data is an integral component in the prediction calculations accurate data is essential for any predication model to function correctly The following mapping data is recommended
Countrywide dataset for Macrocell modelling in rural and semi-rural locations Urban dataset for Macrocell modelling in towns and cities

OPTIMA & Enterprise Filters

Copyright 2001 AIRCOM International Ltd..(Trainer - Sean Hughes)

Filters
OPTIMA has three main methods of filtering data: 1 Enterprise Filters

Use previously created filters within ENTERPRISE Will only bring back filtered data from the database Referred to as Custom filters type in an individual cell, cell planner or BSC separated by a comma with no spaces in between Available in all windows except Cell Statistics and Handovers Filter data within a specified time period

2 OPTIMA Filters

3 Datetime Picker

Session 5
OPTIMA Screens

Copyright 2001 AIRCOM International Ltd..(Trainer - Sean Hughes)

OPTIMA Screens
Allows the analysis of performance data in seven different
ways:

Cell Statistics Cell History Network Statistics MSC Statistics Transcoder Statistics Route Analysis

Processor Load Statistics

Copyright 2001 AIRCOM International Ltd..(Trainer - Sean Hughes)

Cell Statistics
Presents a summary of the
networks last hour BSC counters

Information can be sorted,

filtered and searched

Graphical summaries and

printouts of the data can be produced

Each row contains the last

available hourly counter values for an individual cell in the network

Copyright 2001 AIRCOM International Ltd..(Trainer - Sean Hughes)

Cell Statistics

Copyright 2001 AIRCOM International Ltd..(Trainer - Sean Hughes)

Cell History

View and analyse the BSC counter data of a single cell collected over a period of 48 hours up to a year Allows investigation of the past performance & general trends of the cell

Changes can be made which will let the cell perform better in the future
Comparisons of cell history could answer users queries regarding network performance

Graphical and tabular formats of the data can be viewed and printed

Cell Handover Statistics

Analyse the network handovers
through statistical tables, graphs and histograms

Network can be analysed over

user defined periods

Badly performing handovers

can be easily found and monitored

Copyright 2001 AIRCOM International Ltd..(Trainer - Sean Hughes)

Cell Handover Statistics

Copyright 2001 AIRCOM International Ltd..(Trainer - Sean Hughes)

Network Statistics

View summarised statistical graphs on predefined groups of sites illustrate the networks vital indicators:

Traffic in Erlangs Traffic channel availability Congestion Dropped call rate

Enables user to investigate the performance on isolated groups of sites, regions or whole to detect areas with performance problems

Copyright 2001 AIRCOM International Ltd..(Trainer - Sean Hughes)

Network Statistics

Copyright 2001 AIRCOM International Ltd..(Trainer - Sean Hughes)

MSC Statistics

information such as:

transcoder type
Full rate Half rate

Copyright 2001 AIRCOM International Ltd..(Trainer - Sean Hughes)

BSC Transcoder Statistics

Copyright 2001 AIRCOM International Ltd..(Trainer - Sean Hughes)

Route Statistics
View and analyse MSC counter
data which exists on a per link basis

Data going through the

networks MSCs and GMSCs down to all the other network elements can be illustrated period of 48 hours up to two years

Data can be retrieved over a

Both graphical and tabular

formats can be viewed or printed

Route Statistics

Copyright 2001 AIRCOM International Ltd..(Trainer - Sean Hughes)

Processor Load Statistics

View:

Switch processor and load statistics BSC call successes Traffic in Erlangs

Provides a useful means of investigating processor load trends Could provide a warning when processor loads trend to maximum User can add processors to the network switches when required thus avoiding the overload of processors Offers planning for future strategies

Session 6
Inspector

Copyright 2001 AIRCOM International Ltd..(Trainer - Sean Hughes)

OPTIMA Inspector
Designed to eventually replace the existing OPTIMA
screens

Allows the selection of items (e.g. MSCs, BSCs and Cells) and displays the information as a data grid or graph Main OPTIMA screens are predefined - OPTIMA Inspector allows you to define your own data modules to shown any statistics

Copyright 2001 AIRCOM International Ltd..(Trainer - Sean Hughes)

Advantages of OPTIMA Inspector

Modify data modules and display any combination of
modules in the same window

Data modules can be imported from a file Display data from any ORACLE database OPTIMA Inspector is multi-vendor

Session 7
Reporter

Copyright 2001 AIRCOM International Ltd..(Trainer - Sean Hughes)

OPTIMA Reporting System (ORS)

Reporting solution for viewing performance data

Reports distributed to PC, Email or Printer (.csv or .rpt format) Scheduling system outputs reports at defined occurrences to File, Email or Printer

Uses 3rd party application called Report Builder
