Biology is a natural science concerned with the study of life and living organisms, including their structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, distribution, and taxonomy. Biology is a vast subject containing many subdivisions, topics, and disciplines.

IBS AND THE BS BIOLOGY PROGRAM

HISTORY

The Institute of Biological Sciences (IBS) was created on March 23, 1983, by virtue of Executive Order 889. It was organized from the existing staff of the former Departments of Botany, Life Sciences and Zoology Today it holds the distinction of handling the largest number of courses and students in the University. In recognition of its leading role, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) confirmed its status as a Center of Excellence in Biology in 1999.

Microbiology

Microbiology (from Greek , mkros, "small"; , bios, "life"; and -, logia) is the study of microorganisms, which are unicellular or cellcluster microscopic organisms

Genetics

is the science of heredity and variation in living organisms.

Cell and Molecular Biology

Cell and Molecular biology chiefly concerns itself with understanding the interactions between the various systems of a cell, including the interactions between DNA, RNA and protein biosynthesis as well as learning how these interactions are regulated.

Ecology

The scientific discipline of ecology encompasses areas from global processes, to the study of marine and terrestrial habitats to interspecific interactions such as predation and pollination

Plant Biology

It is the scientific study of plant life. concerned with the study of plants, algae and fungi, including structure, growth, reproduction, metabolism, development, diseases, chemical properties, and evolution.

Systematics

Biological systematics is the study of the diversification of life on the planet Earth, both past and present, and the relationships among living things through time.

Zoology

is the branch of biology that focuses on the structure, function, behavior and evolution of animals

Wildlife Biology

The biological study of wildlife which includes all nondomesticated plants, animals and other organisms.

My Career as a Biologist

I do academic work as a UP teacher handling courses such as BIO 1, BIO 2, BIO 3, BIO 150. I do research on Red Algae Taxonomy and Diversity in the Philippines I study Environmental Microbiology I LOVE WHAT I AM DOING!
