Relevance of Clinical Legal Education to a Law Student


To impart both Human and Professional Ethics. To understand the necessities of the people and the requirements of the society . To formulate a general idea of Human Tendency in various aspects. To develop the ability of analysing the case. To know the ground realities of the profession and the structure of our present society. To inculcate the ideas on social institutions. For the optimum use of Resources.

Model CLE Structure in an University

(Just to generate ideas in minds of the delegates but not to make them believe that this is not the only way)

From the Faculty


There must be a board on Clinical Legal Education.
The board must consist of
2 professors 3 teacher associates (Out of them one must be from Sociology.)

From the Students


At the student level there must be a committee consisting of
4 students from fifth year.(preferably from different subjects) 2 students from fourth year.(who were not present in the committee previously) 1 student each from first ,second and third years.(just for representation and experience, they have to be replaced after a period of 6 months)

Duties of the committee

The main duty of the committee is to observe the present events of immediate importance and discuss about the chances for having a clinic in that aspect. (These are in addition to the existing clinics in general aspects) After discussing the aspects and their possibilities the committee has to approach the for further discussion and approval. Listening to any individual(a student or a faculty member) in respect to consider a field for a clinic. Frequent meetings(at least once in a week). Coordination with other committees like social action committee, library committee.

Duties of the board


Decisions on holding clinics.(both general and recommendations of student committee on CLE). Arranging visits to important places like NGOs,Prisons, for students of first, second and third years to know about society and human beings. Must meet at least twice in a month. Must arrange for the visits of various kinds of people may be from social action institutions or from subjects of close relation and relevance to law like psychology, economics or an old student who has experience in clinics as a student or a lawyer. The Board as the final authority has to discuss about the practical importances and difficulties of having a workshop in the fields as put forward by the committee. On the decision of the board the number of clinics and also number of students from all years to participate can be finalised.
