Hand Gesture Based Wireless Controlled Robot

Basic Idea
To create a multi-tasking device that should be user friendly even for physically handicapped people. To create a robotic device which can be controlled by using gestures unlike a traditional remote controlled device. To increase the level of comfort.

Why gesture?

The basic functionality of this robot is to operate by an Accelerometer.

This Accelerometer is Wireless, with respect to robot. This operational functionality is processed by ARDUINO Controller.

Human gestures constitute a space of motion expressed by the body, face and/or hands. Among a variety of gestures, hand gestures is the most expressive and the most frequently used. Gestures have been used as an alternative form to communicate with computers easily. Application:

Remote control Sign language recognition Control through facial gesture Immersive game technology

Technology for Transfer of Information

Based on: 1: Distance 2: Radio frequency range

Modes of wireless communication:

RF communication
Microwave communication IR communication

An accelerometer is an electromechanical device that will measure acceleration forces How do they work? piezoelectric effect sensing changes in capacitance Application

Vehicle acceleration Behavior pattern of animal and humans In industry

Analog data while moving in X,Y,Z direction X- On this pin we will receive the analog data for x direction movement. Y- On this pin we will receive the analog data for y direction movement Z- On this pin we will receive the analog data for z direction movement.

About:

Open source physical computing platform which is useful in controlling the interactive objects and is used as basic tool for development for computers

Features

Inexpensive Cross Platform Simple Clear programming environment Open source and extensible software and hardware.

Functions
Comparator Encoder RF Transmitter Module(TX) RF Receiver Module(RX) Decoder

Chassis Wheels DC Motors

It operate at the radio frequency It consist of an RF transmitter and receiver (Tx &Rx) operating at 434MHz It receive serial data and transmit it wirelessly Its transmission rate is 1Kbps-10Kbps

Some important features of RF MODULE

oRange in open space(Standard Conditions) : 100 Meters oTx supply voltage : 3v - 6v oTX Output Power : 4 ~ 12 Dbm oLow Power Consumption oRX Receiver Frequency : 433 MHz oRX Typical Sensitivity : 105 Dbm oRX Supply Current : 3.5 mA oRX IF Frequency : 1MHz

WHAT IS ENCODING AND DECODING?

oIn simple words, encoding is wrapping up the data. The data could be anything like simple binary data (in the form of 1's and 0's) or it could be an audio signal or it could be certain text.

o The wrapped data is called as a Packet. This packet is sent through a medium to the decoder part where it gets unwrapped or decoded
oWe are going to use encoder and decoder (HT12E-HT12D pair) for the operation.

Technologies developed based on gesture are now really affordable. Easing of the technology use, affordability and familiarity indicate that gesture based user interface can open new opportunity for elderly and disable people. A gesture controlled communication aid for elderly and disabled people can be a significant task for future.
