WHAT IS AN APEC ENGINEER?


AN APEC ENGINEER IS DEFINED AS A PERSON WHO IS RECOGNISED AS A PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER WITHIN AN APEC ECONOMY, AND WHO HAS SATISFIED AN AUTHORISED BODY IN THAT ECONOMY, OPERATING IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CRITERIA AND PROCEDURES APPROVED BY THE APEC ENGINEER COORDINATING COMMITTEE

OBJECTIVES
Promote Mobility of Qualified Engineers within APEC through mutual recognition of qualifications and experiences. Establish a strong cooperative network among engineering organizations in APEC member economies.

QUALIFICATIONS OF AN APEC ENGINEER


be a holder of a baccalaureate degree from an engineering institution considered as Center of Excellence or Center of Development or its equivalent; be a holder of valid professional certificate of registration and/or professional identification card; have gained a minimum of seven years practical experience since graduation, at least two years of which have been in responsible charge of significant engineering work;

maintain continuing professional development at a satisfactory level; be a bona fide member in good standing of the Accredited Professional Organization (APO) in your profession, which APO shall be a member of the Philippine Technological Council.

In addition all practitioners seeking registration as APEC Engineers must also agree to be: bound by the codes of professional conduct held individually accountable for their actions

Fast-track entry and exit through special APEC lanes at major airports, and multiple short term entry to these economies for a minimum of 59 days stay each visit No need to individually apply for visas or entry permits each time you travel to any of the participating APEC economies as the card is your visa. Cards are valid for three years from first issue.

NOVEMBER 25, 1996 - The idea to set up the ASEAN Engineer Register was first mooted at the 14th AFEO Governing Board meeting held in Air Keroh, Melaka, Malaysia NOVEMBER 27, 1997 THE14th AFEO Governing Board meeting held in Chiangmai, Thailand noted the benchmarking of the APEC Engineer Register and agreed that IEM should host a forum on the ASEAN Engineer

NOVEMBER 23, 1998 - THE16th AFEO Governing Board meeting held in Clarkfield, Angeles City, Philippines, tabled the first working paper on the Guidelines for the setting up of the ASEAN Engineer Register JANUARY 08, 1999 FIRST TEXT OF THE REGISTER WAS PREPARED AND FINALIZED MAY 04, 1999 - progress report on the ASEAN Engineers/Architects Register

OBJECTIVES OF asean engineering register


To facilitate the mobility and professional practice of its engineers within the ASEAN ambit by establishing a framework of mutual recognition qualifications amongst the ASEAN member countries whereby AER engineers who wish to practice outside their home country may carry with them an approved and recognized professional qualification; To safeguard and promote the professional interests of engineers; To establish a database of the capability profile of the individual engineers in order that prospective employers from member countries may engage their services.

To uphold the quality and standing of its Engineers by facilitating and implementing continuous improvement through the setting, monitoring and reviewing of standards; To promote cultural and professional links among members of the engineering profession within ASEAN; To enhance the wealth creation process of ASEAN countries.

QUALIFICATIONS OF AN Asean ENGINEER


The minimum requirements for an applicant to be admitted into the AER are as stated below: MUST possess an Engineering degree recognized by the home country; and MUST be a full time member of the Home Engineering Organisation or Technological Association and licensed to practice engineering in the home country; and

QUALIFICATIONS OF AN Asean ENGINEER


MUST have a minimum of seven (7) years postgraduate professional working experience in an engineering environment, of which two years of experience must involve a position-in charge of significant works; and MUST maintain his professional development at an acceptable level; and MUST agree to be guided by the ASEAN Engineers Code of Practice.
