*7.9.

45 of Bhagavatam:
yan maithunaadi grhamedhi-sukham hi tuccham kanduuyanena karayor iva duhkha-duhkham krpyanti neha krpanaa bahu-duhkha-bhaajah

kanduutivan manasijam visahta dhiirah

*Sex life is compared to the rubbing of two hands to

relieve an itch. *Grhamedhis, so-called grahasthas who have no spiritual knowledge think that this itching is the greatest source platform of happiness, although it is a source of distress. The krpanas, the fools who are the opposite of the brahmanas, are not satisfied by repeated sense enjoyment. *Those who are dhira, however, who are sober and who tolerate this itching, are not subjected to the sufferings of fools and rascals.

*5.5.8 of Bhagavatam:
*The
attraction between male and female is the basic principle of material existence. * On the basis of this misconception, which ties together the hearts of the male and female, one becomes attracted to his body, home, property, children, relatives and wealth. In this way, one increases lifes illusions and thinks in terms of I and mine.

*Pururavas qualities described by Narada in

the court of Indra: His beauty, personal qualities, magnanimity, behavior, wealth and power
Urvasi is pierced by the arrows of Cupid and approaches Pururava *When Pururava sees Urvasi, his eyes become jubilant in the ecstacy of joy, and the hairs on his body stand on end

*Pururava to Urvasi:
O most beautiful woman, you are welcome. Please sit here and tell me what I can do for you. You may enjoy with me as long as you desire

*Urvasi to Pururava:
O most handsome man, who is the woman whose mind and sight would not be attracted to you? If a woman takes shelter of your chest, she cannot refuse to enjoy with you

*Urvasi agrees to live in union with Pururava

on 3 conditions being met:

*Urvasi seeks protection for her

lambs *Urvasi will not see Pururavas naked except at the time of intercourse *Only preparations made of ghee (clarified butter) shall be Urvasis eatables

*O beautiful one,
your beauty is wonderful and your gestures are also wonderful. * Who on earth would not agree to serve a demigoddess such as you?

*Urvasis body was as

fragrant as the saffron of a lotus. * Being enlivened by the fragrance of her body and face, Pururava enjoyed her company for many days with great jubilation..

*Their union is shortlived as Indra desires to have Urvasi back in heavenly planets and requests Gandharvas to bring her back.

*They steal Urvasis

lambs in the dark and run away!

*Urvasi

becomes upset and chastises her beloved with harsh words that pierce him *Now I am being killed under the protection of an unworthy husband, who is a coward and a eunuch although he thinks himself a great hero *Because I depended on him, the plunderers have deprived me of my 2 sons and therefore I am lost. My husband lies down at night in fear, exactly like a woman, although he appears to be a man during the day

*Becomes stricken by the sharp words of Urvasi like

an elephant struck by its drivers pointed rod, and becomes very angry *Not dressing himself properly, he runs after the lambs and the Gandharvas with sword in hand naked in the night *The Gandharvas give up the lambs and shine brightly like lightning, illuminating the house of Pururava *Urvasi sees her husband returning with the lambs, but he is naked, and she leaves..

*Becomes most aggrieved. *Because of his great attraction

for her, he was very much disturbed. *Thus, lamenting, he began travelling about the earth like a madman

*Once, he sees Urvasi on the bank of Saraswati

in Kuruksetra, he speaks to her in sweet words:

*O my dear wife, O most cruel one, kindly stay.

I know that I have never made you happy until now, but you should not give me up for that reason. This is not proper for you. * Even if you have decided to give up my company, let us nonetheless talk for some time Now that you have refused me, my beautiful body will fall down here, and because it is unsuitable for your pleasure, it will be eaten by foxes and vultures

*Dont

be impatient and give up your life. Be sober and dont allow the senses to overcome you like foxes. Dont let foxes eat you. In other words, you should not be controlled by your senses My heart is like that of a fox. There is no use making friendship with me
as my husband at the end of every year, for one night only. In this way, you will have other children, one after another

*O my dear King, you will be able to enjoy with me

*Having regained Urvasi at the end of the year,

the King was most jubilant, but then he was very sorry at the thought of separation from her
She recommends him to obtain a boon from Gandharvas and he enjoys with another woman who looked exactly like Urvasi.

*In performing such a sacrifice, the Treta Yuga begins, the

age of sacrifice and Pururavas inadvertently pleases the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the object of all sacrifices. Thus he began thinking very seriously about his condition and detachment comes into his heart. He then worshipped the Lord, who is beyond the perception of the senses and is the reservoir of all the demigods

*For so many years, I enjoyed bodily pleasure, yet, I

was not satisfied by such insignificant enjoyment. I did not notice how the nights were coming and going *Just see the extent of my delusion. My heart was so polluted by lust that I had no idea how my life was passing *Although I was a powerful lord with great opulence, Urvasi gave me up as if I were no more that an insignificant blade of grass. And, still naked, and without shame, I followed her, crying out to her like a madman!

*What is the use of a big education or the practice of

austerities and renunciation, and what is the use of studying religious scriptures, of living in solitude and silence, if, after all that, ones mind is stolen by the object of ones desire.? *Even after I had served the so-called nectar of the lips of Urvasi for many years, my lusty desires kept rising and rising again and again within my heart and were never satisfied, just like a fire that can never be extinguished by the oblations of ghee poured into its flames

*How can I blame her for my trouble when I

myself am ignorant of my real, spiritual nature? I did not control my senses, and so I am like a person who mistakenly sees a harmless rope as a snake.

*What is this polluted body anyway so

filthy and full of bad odors? I was attracted by the fragrance and beauty of a womans body, but what are those so-called attractive features? They are simply a false covering created by illusion.

* Who but the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who lies beyond

* 11.8.31 of Bhagavatam:

material perception, and is the Lord of self-satisfied sages, can possibly save my consciousness, which has, till now, been stolen?

I am such a fool that I have given up the service of that person, who, being eternally situated within my heart, is actually most dear to me. That most dear one is the Lord of the universe, who is the bestower of real love and happiness and the source of all prosperity. Although He is in my heart, I have completely neglected Him. Instead I have ignorantly served insignificant men who can never satisfy my real desires and who have simply brought me unhappiness, fear, anxiety, lamentation and illusion

*Just add Sri Krsna to the centre of your lives *Water the root of the tree
By transcendental knowledge, Pururava gave up temporary happiness by cleansing his heart and receiving the Lord within his heart.
So at last he achieved peace.

*SB 11.20.28
Having awakened faith in the narrations of My glories, being disgusted with all material activities, knowing that all sense gratification leads to misery, but still being unable to renounce all sense enjoyment, My devotee should remain happy and worship Me with great faith and conviction. Even though he is sometimes engaged in sense enjoyment, My devotee knows that all sense gratification leads to a miserable result, and he sincerely repents such activities
