o o o PROPER STORAGE AREA, USE OF RIGHT PRESERVATIVES, USE OF PROPER HANDILING EQUIPMENT,

TYPE OF STORAGE

P Type - Fully closed Q Type Semi closed shed R Type - Open Yard Rt Type -Open Storage with Tarpaulin Cover / Canopy Pt Type -Closed Shed with Dry and Dust free Atmosphere

P-Type: Fully Closed

Type of construction The closed shed can be constructed by using cold rolled / tubular components for structure and corrugated asbestos sheets / galvanized iron sheets for roofing. Brick walls / Asbestos sheets can be used to cover all the sides. The floor of the shed can be finished with plain cement concrete suitably glazed. The shed shall be provided with proper ventilation and illumination. Facilities :

Steel racks shall be preferably used wherever necessary to make effective use of volume of the space so that smaller components could be stored. The racks shall be identified with suitable numbers by using numeric /alpha numeric Ccodes for easy identification of location of components, which shall be entered and maintained in the respective stock register.
Suitable space shall be left for the movement of the forklift / any other lifting device, used for easy handling of heavier components. Adequate fire fighting equipments shall be provided in each shed and they shall be located suitably for easy accessibility so that during emergency times they could be easily handled, fitness of these equipments shall be ensured periodically.

Q-Type: Semi closed Shed Type of Construction: The semi closed sheds shall be constructed using cold rolled / tubular components for structure and corrugated / asbestos sheets for roofing. The floor shall be brick paved. If required a small portion of sides can be covered to protect components from splashing of rain water onto the components. Facilities: Provision shall be made for the movement of materials handling equipment to facilitate easy handling of heavier materials. Adequate fire fighting equipments shall be provided at strategic places inside the semi closed sheds. These equipments shall be periodically inspected and maintained.

R-Type: Open Yard

Construction Details :
The open yard shall be leveled, well consolidated to achieve raised ground with the provision of cartable feeder roads along with access roads running on all sides. One part of the open yard shall be stone pitched, leveled and consolidated with raised ground suitable for storing / stacking heavier and critical components with due space to handle them by cranes etc.

Facilities :
Adequate fire fighting equipments shall be provided at strategic / easily approachable points duly maintained periodically. Adequate no. of sleepers, concrete block etc. to be procured to make raised platforms to stack critical materials. A separate yard to be identified as scrap yard slightly away from main open yard to store wooden / steel scraps which are to be disposed off. This is required to avoid mix up with regular components as well as to avoid fire hazard. Similarly, a separate space may be allotted in closed / semi closed / open as appropriate to store inflammable items like oils, grease, kerosene, / diesel etc. The area is to be provided with warning boards like NO SMOKING and DANGER. The area shall be fenced or suitably cordoned off.

RT- Type: Open Storage with Tarpaulin Cover / Canopy

Type of Construction : Some of the components which are having both machined and unmachined surfaces and are bulky, shall be stored in open storage area on a raised ground and suitably covered with fire proof tarpaulin or a canopy over the components shall be installed with steel frame, and GI sheets. The purpose is to protect the components from rain and sun. Facilities : Follow the guidelines given in the semi covered shed.

PT- Type : Closed Shed with Dry and Dust Free Atmosphere

Type of Construction:
Closed shed with additional provisions of false ceiling with dry and dust free atmosphere, suitable for storing sophisticated components like control and instrumentation components, electrical items and control panels. The temperature and humidity are to be controlled within +5 deg. C to +45 deg. C and <70% RH.

Facilities :
Provision of adequate number of steel racks suitably numbered using numeric / alpha numeric codes for easy traceability of components. Adequate space in between racks for easy identification, preservation and issue. Provision of sufficient fire fighting equipments with periodic maintenance.

CLASS OF PRESERVATION Classes of Preservation According to type of components, preservation requirements are different. The various classes of preservation are identified generally as : Class A - Machined Surfaces. Class B - Unmachined Surface Class C - Components having threaded portions Class D - Control Panels, Instruments. Selection of preservatives for each components shall be as per the recommendation of the supplier.

CLASS A
Surfaces to be preserved: Machined surfaces Type of Preservatives
a) b) c) d) e) f) TRP HE 1606 TRP HE 1610 Manufactured by BHEL Bhopal TRP HE 1612 Silica gel BS2540 VCI paper Evaporative Protection Coating

Application Procedure Periodical inspection during storage of components / materials shall be carried out to identify the components requiring preservation. Depending upon the nature of surface and component, the preservative is used.

CONTI.

The machined surfaces of various components identified for preservation, shall be thoroughly cleaned in order to remove the old preservative ,dust and rust, if any. The cleaned surface should be dried in the air at least for a duration of 2030 minutes and then the surface shall be re preserved.

The dry re preserved surfaces should be wrapped with VCI paper with its active side facing the surfaces. In case of journals, after the above they should be finally wrapped with aluminum foil of 0.05 to 0.1 mm thick. Adhesive tapes can be used for tightening.

CLASS B
The surface to be preserved : Un Machined Surface

Type of Preservatives
Redoxide Zinc primer IS 2074 Aluminum paint IS 2339 Air drying synthetic enamel black / grey / yellow IS 2932 Steam washable paint AA 55151 Evaporative Protection Coating

Application Procedure Class B Preservation

The affected surface area shall be thoroughly cleaned by mechanical means, using wire brush or rotary brush to get rid of deposits like rust, scale, oil dirt etc, so as to get effective protection against corrosion. Painting or recoating of surfaces must be done within 3 to 5 hours of cleaning of the surface. For normal re conservation, application of single coat of paint is sufficient. However, in case of damage to original coat, two coats shall be applied. Spray guns, brushes etc. may be used for painting but however each coat shall be inspected for proper quality. The steam side surfaces of all condenser parts shall be preserved using steam washable paint.

CLASS C
Components to be preserved with Threaded Portion

Type of Preservatives
Mobilux grease 2 (OR) ICC Industrial grease MP 62

Application Procedure :
The un machined surface of the components shall be re preserved following the procedure detailed out in class A procedure The threaded portion of the components are normally received with preservatives & protective wrapping to avoid damage to threads. The old preservative shall be removed using diesel oil and wiped with tint free cloth. The threads portion shall be re preserved using the preservatives Mobilux grease 2 or ICC industrial grease MP 62 and the protected portion shall be wrapped with plastic sheet to protect the threaded portion against damage.

CLASS D

Components to be preserved are : Control panels and instruments.

Type of Preservative
Silica gel BS 2540

Application Procedure
The control panels shall be stored without disturbing the original packing. In case, damage to the original packing is observed during receipt stage, the packing shall be opened and checked for any damage to internal components fixed inside the control panels. Adequate no. of silica gel bags shall put inside the panel to protect the internal components / items. The instruments shall be stored over steel racks without disturbing the original packings. In case the original packing are found damaged, the same shall be restored taking proper care. Wherever silica gel bags are found missing in the original packing, the same shall be restored, when repacking is carried out.
