Aluminum technology
o Secat and UK maintain a strong, collaborative working relationship a benefit to both entities and the industry. o Secat and CAT are both housed in the same building on UKs Coldstream Research campus in Lexington, KY and they share common goals that support the growing aluminum industry. o Secat also provides services related to new product development, energy assessment, and marketing and business analysis. o The expertise of industry consultants and the national laboratories are available to supplement Secats onsite capabilities.

Alloy development
Secat scientists and engineers focus on issues and technology for the Aluminum industry. Our expertise includes microstructural analysis, mechanical and structural testing, process technology and efficiency, energy assessment, and new product research and development. Sheet manufacturing process development and improvement Microstructural evaluation and material testing of sheet products, including texture, fatigue, etc. Formability evaluation and forming process modeling, including forming limit diagrams.

Casting Technology
Molten metal quality assessment and improvement, including Prefil and Alscan Casthouse safety assessment DC ingot casting modeling using ProCast Ingot microstructural evaluation Determination of hydrogen and inclusion content in liquid metals using a mobile laboratory Secat visited a customer facility with our mobile laboratory to help them identify existing inclusion and gas levels in metal using the Prefil Footprinter and Alscan, and help to determine how those levels correlate with the rejections received from field.

Product Applications
Market surveys prior to introduction of new products Substitution of aluminum for other metals Finite Element Analysis (FEA) studies Alloy selection Manufacturing mode such as casting, extrusion, fabrication, etc. New alloy development Evaluation of new and competing process technologies Melting technologies Molten metal stirring Dross removal and fluxing Reverse engineering of parts to determine alloy and temper or production method
