Alexandros

came out of the army of the Trojans as a champion. In response, Menelaos accepted his challenge and came out of the army of the Achaians. When Alexandros saw Menelaos, he returned back to the ranks of the Trojan army out of fear.

To

save his honor, Alexandros proposed to his brother Hector to have both armies sit down and let Alexandros and Menelaos to decide the fate of the war. If Menelaos won, the Achaians would take Helen and her wealth with additional gold from Troy.

But

if Alexandros won, the Achaians return to their motherland and pay the Trojans gold. As Zeus as their witness, both King Agamemnon and King Priam gave their offerings to the gods in High Olympus.

Menelaos

had the advantage over Alexandros, he was more experienced in combat than Alexandros. And when Menelaos was about to claim his victory. Aphrodite, who favored Alexandros, protected him and brought him back to his household. Thus making Menelaos the winner.
