what is asteroids?
- Asteroids are giant rocks that lived in the outer space - these asteroids are dangerous, they can make a large destruction in a planet.

Examples of asteroids
- Near earth asteroids (NEAs) these asteroids are the most watched because of the possibility that it might collide on our planet. there are 7,075 NEAs already found

Examples of asteroids
with 500 to 1000 of them at least 1 km in diameter. asteroids that passes through our atmosphere ignites and it can create earthquakes and forest fires. these occurences are very rare, the most known occured in russia in 1908

Tunguska Event of 1908

- it is known as the massive explosion which cause the destruction of the estimated 80 million trees in an area of more than 2000 sq.km. -the power of the asteroid is equal to the estimated force of 1000 times of the atom bomb in hiroshima.the asteroid was about 38 m in diameter.

Asteroids
like planets ,asteroids are given names by astronomers. the first asteroid discovered in 1801 and was at first thought to be a planet because it is big that measure 910 km across, it is named ceres the roman goddess of agriculture. three others weresubsequently found and given the name of gods and goddesses from mythology like Pallas, Juno, and Vesta.

they are also named from scientist that contributed to the world of science like Einstein which is known by his theory of relativity.

Asteroids as source of metals

- many asteroids are big enough so that a spaceship can land on them and walk on its surface. those that are big are reffered to as planetoids because they are believes to be rich in nickel, iron ,and many metals . there is one company that might make a possibility of mining metals on asteroids.
