Over the last years the Danish wind power industry has become worldwide.

This means that the production of wind turbines has been moved from Denmark to far away nations like China and USA. The reason for this development, is that the production is cheaper in those countries, but also because the Danish manufactures sees a potential market over there.

Back in the 80s Denmark was one the leading country in wind power and wind turbines. The Danish firm Vestas is one of the biggest firms, when we are talking wind power and technology. Denmark is generally in the top, when it comes to both inventing, producing and using wind turbines and wind power in general.

Globalization
The statistic shows that the export of Danish windmills has increased 20 per cent from 2007 to 2008. That is 7.100.000.000 Danish Crowns. The export of windmills made 7,2 per cent of the complete Danish export in 2008. In the same year, it made more than 70 per cent of the complete Danish export of energy technology.

Globalization
The main reason for Denmarks export is growing, is that Denmark exports many components to the other countries who are making wind turbines. In 2008 the Danish component firms increased their turnover with 30 per cent.

2. Is the rotor. The rotor provides the blades rotate. 4. This is brake. Its very important to have a brake in a wind turbine, if something is wrong or it is going to fast. Then it will brake and stop the wind turbine. 5. is a low-speed shaft, it goes into a big cog wheel and this goes into a smaller cog wheel. The small cog wheel rotates faster than the big cog wheel. 7. This is the generator. Its almost like a generator in a car. 13. Its a yaw draw, it makes the wind turbine rotate in the wind direction. 15. Is the tower. The entrance is placed in the bottom of the tower

Description

Wind turbine design

The blades on a wind turbine has a fantastic design. They are like blades on a airplane. Back in time the blades on a wind turbine were airplane blades. It does work. But to day they arent airplane blades, but they are like airplane blades. If we compare the two blades do they both have a flat side and a more bigger side. But airplane blades to have the wind under and the wind turbines have the wind right on.

Wind
When the wind has past the wind turbine, there will be formed spirals. The reason to this is, when the wind turbine is rotating it slings the wind around. This is not good for making all wind to energy, We are loosing a lot of wind in that way. But researchers try to find solution on this problem or try to reduce the loss.

The wind will always blow and offer clean and renewable energy Once the wind turbine is built, the energy it produces doesnt cause any greenhouse gases or pollutants

Onshore advantages

Onshore disadvantages

A regular onshore turbine last for around 20 years Normally it takes about 2-3 months before the wind turbine has paid itself back. This also includes the energy, which were used to produce, install, maintain and remove the wind turbine. Cheaper foundation Cheaper integration with electrical-grid network

Wind turbines are noisy Each one can generate the same level of noise as a family car travelling 70 mph Some people thinks that the large towers of wind turbines destroys the view of the landscape

Offshore advantages

Offshore disadvantages

A offshore wind turbine is stronger than a onshore turbine. It lasts around 25-30 years, and produces about 50 % more energy than a onshore turbine. When a strong wind blows, it produces around 3-5 MW per hour. Higher and more constant wind speed

More expensive to built More difficult to maintain and access

Wind energy is friendly to the surrounding environment, as no fossil fuels are burnt to generate electricity from wind energy Wind turbines requires less space than average power stations. When combined with solar electricity, this energy source is great for developed and developing countries to provide a steady, reliable supply of electricity

The main disadvantage regarding wind power is down to the winds unreliability factor. In many areas, the winds strength is not enough to support a wind turbine Wind turbines generally produce allot less electricity than the average fossil fuelled power station, which means that multiple wind turbines are needed to make an impact.
