Computers for individual use


computer designed for individual use, as by per son in an office or at home or school, for such applications as word processing, data management, financial analys is, or computer games

Types of computers
Desktop computers A desktop computer is a personal computer in a form intended for regular use at a single location, as opposed to a mobile laptop orportable computer. Early desktop computers were designed to lie flat on the desk, while modern towers stand upright. Most modern desktop computers have separate screens and keyboards.

Workstations
A workstation is a computer designed for technical or scientific applications. Intended primarily to be used by one person at a time, they are commonly connected to a local area network and run multi-user operating systems

Notebook computers
modern notebook computers are nearly equivalent to personal computers. They have the same CPUs, memory capacity, and disk drives. The principal difference between a notebook computer and a personal computer is the display screen.

Tablet computers
A tablet computer, is a mobile computer with display, circuitry and battery in a single unit. Tablets are equipped with sensors, including cameras, microphone and touchscreen replacing computer mouse and keyboard. Tablets may include physical buttons, e.g., to control basic features such as speaker volume and power and ports for network communications and to charge the battery. An onscreen, pop-up virtual keyboard is usually used for typing. Tablets are typically larger than smart phones or personal digital assistants at 7 inches (18 cm) or larger, measured diagonally

Palm computers

Palm handhelds were Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) that ran the Palm Operating system. They are very small computers

Smart phones
A smart phone, is a mobile phone built on a mobile operating system, with more advanced computing capability and connectivity than a feature phone. The first smartphones combined the functions of a personal digital assistant (PDA), including email functionality, with a mobile phone. Later models added the functionality of portable media players, low-end compact digital cameras, pocket video cameras, and GPS navigation units to form one multiuse device. Many modern smart phones also include highresolution touchscreens and web browsers that display standard web pages as well as mobile-optimized sites. Highspeed data access is provided by Wi-Fi, mobile broadband and Bluetooth.

Computers for organization


Mainframe computers Mainframe computers are used primarily by corporate and governmental organizations for critical applications, bulk data processing such as census, industry and consumer statistics, enterprise resource planning and transaction processing.

Mini computers
The term minicomputer describe the smaller computers that became possible with the use of transistors and core memory technologies, the term "minicomputer" came to mean a machine that lies in the middle range of the computing spectrum, in between the smallest mainframe computers and the microcomputers

Super computers
Supercomputers are used for a wider range of computer intensive tasks in various fields, including weather forecasting, climate research, oil and gas exploration etc. They handles large and complex calculations and process trillions of calculations per second They are usually found in research organizations

Network servers
Servers often provide essential services across a network, either to private users inside a large organization or to public users via the Internet. Typical computing servers are database server, file server, mail server, print server, web server, gaming server, application server, or some other kind of server

Computers in society
It helps to be aware of a variety of views of computing, including: historical; professional; social; political and cultural. It Identify areas of society where information technology has had a substantial impact and where its effects may be of concern. It appreciates the legal and social issues associated with the use of computers in organizations and computer crime. It present information in an organized and efficient manner It provide informed opinions in discussion and debate about topics relating to technology and its effect on society

Computers in field of education are used by schools for the process of learning in an effective and efficient way Computers are used for different institutions , universities , offices and for training purposes as well Basic computer skills are now being taught to early learners who quickly pick up mouse and keyboard use

In field of Industry computers are used to design products Computers added design programs allow engineers to design and test new products and even to control the machines that manufacture them

Computers in government
Computers have taken the place of sending agents and collecting documents, because the coordination and examination of information electronically is thousands of times faster and cheaper. To keep track of tax payments, forms filed by individuals and corporations, people entering and leaving the country, and the status of government contracts. They also gather statistical information in such areas as society, education, the environment, commerce, and the economy.

Computers in health care


Technology plays an important role in medicine and health care. One of the most widely used machines in medicine and health care fields is a computer. Here are some uses for a computer: 1. To record vital appointment and patient details. 2. As a researching tool for the health care professional. 3. To alert patients of their next coming appointment (via email). 4. To analyze patient information such as blood pressure, pulse rate, respiration and blood glucose levels. 5. Is more convenient and saves having to hand write information.
