TARGET AUDIENCE
My target audience is aimed at 16 25 year olds.

This was definitely something acknowledged when handing out my questionnaires.

I got a variety of answers back from the public however this will help me develop my magazine.

I asked this question to make sure the members of the public was within my target audience range. Here is a graph to show the answers I achieved. As you can see the main age that tend to read music magazines are 16-18 year olds. This encourages me to know I've made the right choice in making my target audience within the age range of 16-22. My target audience is broad enough to gain sales and will boost my income as it will be suitable for all of the ages. I handed my questionnaire to 20 people they answered this question and these were the responses in got.

This question was to distinguish which gender would prefer to read my magazine. There is not a great detail I can say about this question because it is an either or answer. The majority of the people I asked answered were female, however I will be offering the magazine to males also as it was a close second answer.

3)HOW OFTEN DO YOU BUY A MUSIC MAGAZINE?

I wrote this question to help me come to a decision of when to publish my music magazine. Generally the highest answer was weekly and monthly therefore I can base my decision on this. Magazine that are published every week tend to have less pages, this links to my question about how many pages would you read within a magazine. The majority vote was the less pages the more chance the magazine will be read so it is more than likely that I will be publishing my magazine weekly.

4) WHAT COLOURS BEST SUIT THE INDIE GENRE OF MUSIC?

This question was to help me with the colour scheme for the magazine, so I was in keeping with the genre of music. I asked my target audience which colour best suited the indie genre of the music magazine. There was an equal split between the colours orange and purple and red, black and white. Personally I feel yellow, orange and red are the colours I would mostly link with that genre therefore I feel this questionnaire has just reiterated my personal opinion. The colour scheme for my magazine will be yellow, orange 8 and red.

5) WHO ARE YOUR FAVOURITE ARTIST OR INDIE BAND?

This question helps me with knowing which band or artists similar to these artists. This is because I could not possibly base magazine Florence and the machine for instance (the highest answer) I can find a band similar to this band and base my content of the magazine around them. I have chosen Florence and the machine as inspiration as they have proved to be the most favourable audience for my target audience.

6) HOW OFTEN DO YOU LISTEN TO MUSIC ?

This is again a question for my target audience, the people that answered never most probably would not choose to buy my music magazine. Although the majority of my target audience said they would listen to music everyday I could not publish a magazine with updates regarding music within the charts each day. Instead I will be publishing my magazine monthly so that I will have enough to talk about within the articles, by making my magazine monthly it will also mean there will be more to read and you will get more for your money.

7)WOULD LIKE TO BE INFORMED OF ANY OFFERS WITHIN THE MAGAZINE?

This question will help me with the magazine content, It helps me to know what to include for my target audience. For instance if made a banner at the top of my magazine explaining someone can win VIP tickets to watch a live band, this will attract the attention of the reader keeping them engaged as they read more to find out how to win.

9)WHAT PRICE ARE YOU WILLING TO PAY FOR THE MAGAZINE?

A question like this allows me to get better understanding of the price range the public are willing to pay. The most popular price is 2-3, therefore I came to the decision to put the price of my music magazine at 2.50 which is in the middle of the favoured price range.

10)WHAT TYPE OF MAGAZINE DO YOU KNOW?

I based my audience research mainly around these three magazines, this question was asked to confirm if they were popular enough. By knowing which is the most popular I can then direct my magazine in the same way so it sells just as well.

11)WILL FREE GIFTS PERSUADE YOU TO BUY A MAGAZINE?

This will help if I should include free gifts in my magazine to boost my sales. If people were to see that the magazine includes free things it is likely that they will buy the magazine.

12)DOES THE NUMBER OF ADVERTS EFFECT WHY YOU BUY A MAGAZINE?

Because the majority vote is Yes I will not be including adverts. The readers dont pay the magazine price to look at adverts, they buy the magazine to read about their favourite bands or to find the latest music related news.

As you can see by the graph the majority vote is 40-60 so I will only include this amount of pages within my magazines. I feel if anymore pages were put into the magazine the readers would get bored and wont appreciate the content.

14)WHAT WOULD YOU EXPECT TO SEE IN A MUSIC MAGAZINE?

The results for this question proved to have very similar answers, which means I will include Articles, posters and feature articles within my magazine. I also will also be including an interview with my featured band on my double page spread.

15)DO YOU ENTER ANY MUSIC MAGAZINE COMPETITIONS?

This gives me an idea of whether to include them into my music magazine. As you can see by the graph below people will not appreciate entering into competitions, therefore I am not going to include any in my magazine.
