Introduction to Risk Management

VANTAGE
Exceeding expectations

Hazards in the work place should be identified, associated risks assessed and appropriate controls implemented. The Company demonstrates that risks to people, environment, equipment and reputation are As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) through the use of risk management techniques that include: Risk identification. Risk assessment. Implementation of appropriate controls. The 6 levels of risk management that the industry and VANTAGE considers are: Safety Case (Shore Based) MHRA - Major Accident Hazard Risk Assessment (Shore Based) HAZID/HAZOP Hazard Identification and Hazard Operability Analysis (Shore Based) Task Risk Assessment (Installation) VANTAGE Planning Process (Installation) VANTAGE Observation Process (Installation)

Safety Case (shore based) will be used as considered necessary by Senior Management. MHRA (shore based) will be used as considered necessary by Senior Management. HAZID/HAZOP (shore based) will be used as considered necessary by Senior Management and where the level of risks associated with a task are High-Risk as defined by the VANTAGE Risk Assessment Matrix. Task Risk Assessments (installation) A Task Risk Assessment will be performed for all tasks and a log maintained onboard all units. For some inherently Low-Risk (L) tasks as defined by the VANTAGE Risk Assessment Matrix, an individuals competency, skills, training and experience are sufficient. Example is walking up and down stairs. In all cases, the individual must consider the associated hazards and remain vigilant to any changes in the task. A worksite assessment is still necessary using the VANTAGE Planning Process, however, no formal recorded TRA will be required unless the assessment reveals additional hazards that cannot be considered Low-Risk (L).

VANTAGE Planning Process - Written/Verbal/Individual (installation) will be performed for all tasks. The level required shall be based on the risk rating in the VANTAGE Risk Assessment Matrix. High-Risk (H) & Medium-Risk (M) ratings Written VANTAGE Planning Process Low-Risk rating (L) Verbal or Individual VANTAGE Planning Process The Written VANTAGE Planning Process can also be carried out at any time on a specific task even with low risk ratings for the purpose of familiarizing new personnel with the VANTAGE Planning Process. VANTAGE Observation Process (installation) will be used by personnel on a continuous basis. The importance of interrupting unsafe acts or unsafe conditions must be continually reinforced by all levels of supervisors and management. In addition to this the VANTAGE Observation Process provides a means of reinforcing safe behaviours and conditions.
