This layer manages and operates all main virtualization functionalities, such as: create/delete/modify virtual machine with its specification, store images of virtual machines, schedule VMs, or log system states. User data and VM images are stored at this layer. When layer 3 receives commands from layer 2. Commands relating to the VM will be sent to Open Nebula using XML RPC3 to transmit the command to Open Nebula (See Figure 4). Open Nebula will check in VMs status and activate the command on the VM, and commands relating to the user database will be sent to the MySQL Server. MySQL Server performs the query and replies results through the web server to the client. In order to show up the screen of VM on the web browser, VNC4Server is called. However, MySQL Server and Open Nebula can cooperate in case that Open Nebula needs to get user information or MySQL Server needs to achieve information of needed VMs.
