Narrative
Regarding the plot of our music video, I do not feel that it a very prominent, as in reality it is just a young girl going about her day. However it is a performance with outtakes; Anna and I planned our shots and some aspects of the narratives, with the help of a shot list and story board. Some of these ideas were not used, but it was very helpful and effective when filming. I feel that the narrative appeals to our target audience, as some teenagers get bored easily, and do not want to spend their time trying to figure out the story behind the song.

We have incorporated some aspects of Andrew Goodwin's theories; firstly with the use of montage (often edited to the beat). One of the first music videos I studied was shoulda by Jamie Woon, a perfect use of montage was exhibited, and I immediately knew that is how I wanted the narrative in my video to be, I was inspired. There is a relationship between the music and visuals, as well as the lyrics and visuals through out. Thus establishing our use of generic conventions; when studying the lyrics of the song, Anna and I attempted to link the lyrics with visual at the beach. For example, we felt that well take flight tonight, linked well with birds and anything associated with flying.

We also incorporated the work of Sergei Mikhailovich Eisenstein, who insisted that montage was an alternative of continuity editing. By doing this Anna and I edited frames together to create meaning, resulting in one frame informing the other. For example, when our main character is looking out into the sunset, we edited the different frames together, so the shot made sense, but was taken at different angles.

Narrative
Anna and I have used the generic conventions projected by Levi Strauss, who produced the theory of Binary Oppositions; we have done this through not the obvious aspects (Light/ dark although this could have been incorporated through the beach into the arcade) we have focused on the oppositions of urban/rural and natural/manmade we have tried to show how a piece of natural landscape, has been changed by urban non human landmarks. An example of this can be seen in Bingo Players Get Up, the natural duck in an urban environment. Our music video is that of an open text (Roland Barthes), where the audience is able to create their own meaning Is the singer serenading the girl? Is the girl thinking about her love? What is she doing? The Hermeneutic code, out of the five of Barthes codes, can relate to our video; as our video avoids telling the through truth or revealing all of the facts, causing the audience to come up with their own interpretations. In some way Anna and I have challenged generic conventions, as many music videos in this modern day have a very explicit plot and narrative, with a beginning middle and end. With obviousness. Mine and Annas video is ambiguous and mysterious, resulting in the audience creating their own opinions and links,

Narrative
In some ways it could be suggested that there is a theme of escape in our music video, as the young girl could just want to be alone, escape from the real world and live in the world of her own music and her own dreams. Blumer and Katz theory suggests that the audience uses the video as an escape from their everyday lives and activities . I feel that this links with our video as it is suggested that the character is doing just the same. It could even influence the audience members to take a trip to a desolate beach. Anna and I have used generic conventions, as a lot of indie videos I have studied, have used dream like states, and the idea of indie music is for it to be independent, and unique so it doesnt conform to popular culture (pop bands one direction).
