OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

1. Discuss the Welding Safety Precautions by ANSI; 2. Interpret the Welding Safety Precautions used in welding work areas; and 3. Observe and appreciate the importance of following safety precautions in welding.

WELDING, like other professions, is a

SAFE OCCUPATION when SUFFICIENT MEASURES ARE TAKEN to protect the welder from potential hazards.

ARC RAYS can burn.

Select a filter lens that is

comfortable for you while welding. Always use helmet when welding. Provide non-flammable shielding to protect others. Wear clothing that protects skin while welding.

ELECTRIC SHOCK can kill.

Insulate yourself from work and ground by always wear dry insulating gloves. Connect work cable as close as possible to welding working area. Do not touch live electrical parts. Disconnect input power if not in used.

ELECTRIC SHOCK can kill.

FUMES AND GASES can be dangerous.

Use ventilation or exhaust to keep air-breathing zone clear, comfortable. Do not weld unless ventilation is adequate.

WELDING SPARKS can

cause fire or explosion.
Do not weld on containers that have held
combustible materials. Remove flammable materials from welding area or shield from sparks & heat. Keep a fire extinguisher in the welding area. Wear fire retardant clothing and hat. Use earplugs when welding overhead.

CYLINDER
may explode if damage.
Keep cylinder upright and chained to
support. Never allow welding electrode to touch a cylinder. Keep your head and face away from the cylinder valve outlet when opening it. Valve protection caps should always be in place and hand tight when not in use.

MOVING PARTS
can injure.
Keep cables, materials, tools neatly organized. Keep hands, hair, clothing and tools away from V-belts, gears, fans and other moving parts.

GENERALIZATION &VALUING
WELDING, like other professions, is a SAFE OCCUPATION when SUFFICIENT MEASURES ARE TAKEN to protect the welder from potential hazards. The welders should always wear their complete and proper uniform whenever they are in working areas, check daily the conditions of wires and flammable substances, and keep the materials neatly organized to prevent serious and even fatal injuries.
