ELECTRICAL SUBSTATION DESIGN

1/15

GENERAL

Client/Electrical Inspector for perfect party wall between HV and LV rooms. Philosophy of distribution of equipments controlled from each substation discussed with clients. Area of distribution and load considered for deciding the number of substations. Substation not lie with in classified zone. Location of substation with respect to equipment erection, maneuvering, space for entry and exit of cables on trays. Communicate to piping on number of substation and space requirement. Substation have cellar/trench has to be discussed with clients and civil.

2/15

SUBSTATION SIZING
List of the Equipments to be housed in the substation should be prepared. Allocated space for expansion, surprise panels. Record of all work sheets for sizing of boards, etc Allow space in vertical height of floor for pressurisation ducts. Discuss with instrument group, mechanical group for space required by them for their panels, pressurisation system, etc. Preliminary layout for arriving at size of substation and prefer to keep 1200 rear, 2000 for LV front and 2500 for3/15 HV / MV front clearances.

Contn..

7) Space should be allotted for :Electrical engineers office. Spares room / store room. Convenience requirements like toilet. Blower room (when substation is pressurised).

8) Clients approval is necessary before releasing for civil design.

4/15

CELLAR
Bottom of beam of cellar at minimum of 2100 above FFL of cellar. Clients concurrence to keep bottom most tray at 900 above cellar FFL.

CIVIL /ARCHITECTURAL REQUIREMENTS

Detailed drawing of
Door location, Window locations Ventilators fixed or Z Identified Fireproof Walls Rolling shutters. Particular attention for height of rolling shutters.

6/15

CIVIL /ARCHITECTURAL REQUIREMENTS

Location of stairs as per requirements. Indication of loading bay giving particular attention to width of bay, open to sky. Indication of opening in wall for.

Erection of equipment Cable tray entry / exit Bus ducts

CIVIL /ARCHITECTURAL REQUIREMENTS

Indication of the panel cut-outs with nosing channels for substation floor. Discussion with civil for expansion joints in case of long substation Expansion joints is shifted it beyond the largest board layout. Marked column / location with respect to requirements If specific columns is avoided than mention it. If cross beams below panel cut-out is not allowed than highlighted it to civil. If lintel beam level / is fixed ,give a hold and inform civil. Windows and ventilators and tie beams are not provided in transformer bay to avoid bus duct clash with windows, ventilators.

CIVIL /ARCHITECTURAL REQUIREMENTS

Study tray routing plan in the cellar to give the IP, sleeve requirements to the civil group Allocation of distance between pipe rack and substation tray entries for manoeuvring the cable tray bends, fall of trays and again a horizontal bend. Tray route entering substation and mark columns which may have to be extended for supporting cable tray structures. location of columns of cable supporting structure at the drop / rise outside the Substation and inform civil Requirement of a structural stub columns in cellar for slab / cable tray support.

9/15

CIVIL /ARCHITECTURAL REQUIREMENTS

Indication of sleeves for beam and floor marked. ARCH. Drawing must have:

Insert Plate of ceiling for bus duct support Insert Plate on ceiling for lighting tray support Sleeves in beam, put a note that the sleeves shall also be provided on any secondary beams Floor sleeves for lighting Cable Slots along the wall / array of sleeves along wall for any future surprise panels

TRANSFORMER YARD

Points applicable when transformer yard is part of substation building:Floor finish shall be Pcc(Sheet) with gravel or only gravel. Space provision for NGR / cooling control Cabinets. Decide transformer bay size based on transformer size and put limitation on transformer dimensions. Prepare transformer foundation drawing based on Vendor GA drawing Typical foundation drawings for previous projects to be referred & provide foundation for bus duct support. Adequate number of sleeves in the wall between transformer yard and substation for HV power and LV control cables.

TRANSFORMER YARD

Trenches in transformer yard for HV Cable and sufficient space for bending and terminating of cable below HV Cable box. Soak pit / catch pit, interconnection of catch pit and soak pit, as applicable with proper slopes. Roof from transformer yard for dusty plants in consultation with Client / process licensor. Isolator arrangement consider in transformer yard where essential . Pipe rack in front of transformer bay, raise the pipe Civil to match pipe rack Columns running near sub-station to be in line with Substation columns.

SUBSTATION VENTILATION
Pressurisation of substation and air-conditioning of certain rooms where UPS, VSD, etc. are located and inform Civil. Mechanical and civil for ventilation requirement of the cellar and eq. area. Clarification in whose scope exhaust fan will be included. Specification of exhaust fan with louvers.
