GT MAINTENANCE
What is maintenance ?
Work or activities done to ensure the plant/equipment is safe and efficient to operate at its design capacity
Types of maintenance
Corrective maintenance Preventive maintenance Predictive maintenance
GT MAINTENANCE
Activities
Routine service (preventive) Repair (corrective) Inspection (preventive/predictive) Ovehaul (predictive)
GT MAINTENANCE
Types of Inspection
Running inspection Shut down inspection
Mode of Inspection
Visual inspection Boroscope inspection Non-destructive testing (NDT)
GT MAINTENANCE
What to inspect ? Corrosion Erosion Crack Over heating Missing metals
GT MAINTENANCE
Running inspection - observation & inspection made during start-up and while the unit is in operation
Flame Condition Air Filters Differential Pressure Exhaust Temperature Battery System Load
GT MAINTENANCE
Flame condition - unstable/improper flame condition can lead to drop in efficiency, power output or even trip the gas turbine Air filters differential pressure - high differential pressure across air filters is an indication of dirty/choke filters - a reduction in air flow to compressor which can lead to implosion. When this happens gas turbine has to be stopped
GT MAINTENANCE
Exhaust temperature - high exhaust temperature can be an indication of deterioration of internal parts, compressor fouling or improper control settings Battery system - weak batteries will not support starting up of the gas turbine. Specific gravity, voltage, terminals, liquid level etc must be in good condition
GT MAINTENANCE
Compressor cleaning - cleaning/washing of compressor can be done on load. Common cleaning materials are rice, nut shell, padi husk and etc (combustible materials). Dirty compressors will not discharge its full capacity and hence reduce the power output
GT MAINTENANCE
Note: Routine servicing of battery system, changing of filters, burner cleaning, lubrication, checking device settings & calibrations and other general preventive maintenance can be performed in off-peak hours without interrupting availability
GT MAINTENANCE
Shut down inspection - observation and inspection made while the unit is not in operation
Combustion Hot
Inspection (combustor)
Major
GT MAINTENANCE
Combustion Inspection (combustor)
Done at intervals (8000 hours) to check, clean, repair or replace:combustion liners transition pieces crossfire tubes fuel nozzles flame detectors spark plugs filter cartridge
GT MAINTENANCE
Hot Gas Path Inspection (combustor & turbine)
Done at intervals (16,000 hours) to check, clean, repair or replace:turbine nozzles moving & fixed blades turbine wheels shell & casing inlet & outlet ducting all parts/components of combustion inspection general cleaning
GT MAINTENANCE
Major Inspection (overhaul)
Done at intervals (48,000 hours) to check, clean, repair or replace:compressor stator & rotor bearings & sealing system starting device gear box all parts/components of combustion inspection all parts/components of hot gas path inspection general cleaning
GT MAINTENANCE
Common defects on major components Turbine nozzles
