My name is Kashmala and I am here to present on the topic of Pakistani culture VS

Islamic culture. It is a vast subject and here we will talk about some common points.
Lets start with the definition of culture.
Is Pakistani culture an
Islamic culture
What is culture
Culture is the characteristics of a particular group of people,
defined by everything from language, religion, cuisine, social
habits, music and arts.

Pakistani culture
When people say Pakistani culture" what does
they mean by it? I am confused about this term.
Does Pakistani culture means culture associated
with Ahal-e-zuban of Urdu? or it is sum of
cultures of all ethnicities of Pakistan and if yes
then how does it make any sense?

The society and culture of Pakistan comprises numerous ethnic groups:
the Punjabis, Kashmiris, Sindhis in east, Muhajirs,Makrani in the
south; Baloch and Pashtun in the west; and the
ancient Dardic, Wakhi, Baltistani and Burusho communities in the north.
The culture of these Pakistani ethnic groups have been greatly influenced
by many of its neighbors, such as the Turkic peoples, Persians, Arabs, and
other South Asians, as well as the peoples ofCentral Asia and the Middle
East.

There are differences among the ethnic
groups in cultural aspects such as
literature, dress, food, and religion
Islamic culture
Islamic culture generally reflects the traditions and customs of Islam that they adopt
for a perfect and respectable life in the society according to the lessons of Quran.
Muslim culture is a giant combination of diverse cultures, Thats because Muslims live
in various countries all over the world. Most of the practices are common faiths and
guidance for all Muslims no matter what country or even content they reside in.. These
basic faiths and believes are based on the teachings of Islam. The Muslim culture is a
subject of debate for many people who lives in different parts of the world and belong
to diverse communities. Muslim culture represents the unification of brotherhood
where all Muslims are bound to practice a common religious phenomenon. Source of
this culture comes from the teachings provided by the Holy Prophet Mohammed
(P.B.U.H) and Islam (Bouhdiba, 2003).
Islamic culture has its own distinctive culture adopted from Quran to guide man.

Comparison & Differences
between Islamic and Pakistani culture
Islamic culture
Literature
Early Muslim literature is
in Arabic, as that was the
language of the Islamic
Prophet Muhammad's
communities

Pakistani culture
Literature
Despite the fact that
Pakistani society is a
multilingual society , people
prefer or want their children
to learn Arabic.
& from the early age they
start teaching there children
Quran.
Greeting manners
We have a particular way of
greeting each other, that is by
paying Salaam.
Muslims greet each other by
saying Salaam, words in Arabic.
Basically wishing safety for the
fellow humans.
This is something that has not
changed in our society even
though there were many modern
reforms applied by the youth.
Food
According to Islam there are two
kinds of food Halaal and Haraam.
Halaal includes fruits, vegetables
,grains, meet of fish, cow, chicken
etc. Where as Haraam includes all
the food which are prohibited
such as pork, alcohol, meet of
dead animals is also considered
as haram.

Food
Pakistan has develop a
sense of food according to
Islam. Although some
people still neglects it &
drink alcohol , but are not
accepted in the social
economic circle.

Halaal Slaughtering of Food
Muslims make sure, that the
meat being consumed is of an
animal that was slaughtered in
the Halaal and right way. This is
what our Holy Prophets
Sunnah has taught us. Muslims
of Pakistan strictly follow this
code and the consumption of
Halaal meat is one of the very
critical issues that are related
to our religion.
Eating Etiquettes
The eating etiquettes of Muslim
society very greatly from the British/
West culture.
Muslims eat with their hands, right
hand, being precise i.e.
English people use cutlery and
inevitably to cut food, they have to
hold knife in the right hand, thus
end up eating with the left.
Normally this culture is avoided in
our country.
Paradox of Alcohol
Alcohol is one of the most
complicated paradoxes of our
society. In our country, there are
people who do not drink, people
who drink, and then the third
breed. People who drink but dont
admit that they do. Anyway, being a
Muslim society, nobody accepts it
openly and it is discouraged.
Murree Brewery of Pakistan has
been producing beers and other
alcoholic drinks (along with non-
alcoholic) for a long time now.
Dress

Asma, daughter of Abu Bakr, entered upon the Apostle of Allah wearing thin
clothes. The Apostle of Allah turned his attention from her. He said: "O Asma,
when a woman reaches the age of menstruation, it does not suit her that she
displays her parts of body except this and this," and he pointed to her face and
hands
Pakistan is a moderate Islamic country. Although veil is not an absolute
requirement and the women may even wear jeans and T-shirts in Karachi,
Lahore and Rawalpindi-Islamabad, it is much preferable that they should
properly cover their bodies by wearing loose clothing. It is proper to cover
head with some kind of sash, sleeves should cover the elbows and legs should
not be exposed above ankles. But it is a shame to see that Pakistani Culture is
going towards the place where they are leaving behind there values.
What men want for their women ?

Muslim Family System
In Islam, a family can take the following two shapes: a couple and their children, or a
couple, their parents and their children. This definition is based on the law which defines
the persons whose maintenance is your obligation: your wife, your parents, and your
children. These people are your dependents, it is obligatory upon you to provide for
them. It was narrated from Ibn Umar that he heard the Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H) say:
Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock. The ruler of the
people is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock. A man is the shepherd of his
household and is responsible for his flock. A woman is the shepherd of her husbands
house and children and is responsible for her flock. The slave is the shepherd of his
masters wealth and is responsible for it. Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is
responsible for his flock. [Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih al-Muslim]
Family System Of Pakistan
In Pakistan, the joint family system is quite usually found. Joint family usually
comprises father, mother, children, grand father and mother, and they live
together with their people in the same family unit. Moreover, the governing male
of the house will play a significant role with respect to the well-being of his family
unit. Also, they give a good care and take the responsibility to guard their
grandparents. Above all, they respect their folks and grandparents! People in
Pakistan dearly follow the joint family system and live their life along with their
folks
But this thing is not found in Pakistan , people have great habit backstabbing
and usually ladies dont do Parda from family members.

It is important to note that some of
the customs followed in Pakistani
weddings have no foundation in
Islam. However, the Pakistani culture
has adopted those ceremonies and
traditions from the Hindu culture.
like Mayun , Ubtan, Dholki etc

but on the other hand
Nikah is purely Islamic official
wedding ceremony that usually takes
place at the brides home or in
Masjid. Nikah is attended by close
family members, relatives, and friends
of groom and bride. Usually, the men
and women are made to sit
separately, in different rooms, or have
a purdah, or curtain, separating them.
And without the Nikah marriage
cannot take place so it shows how
important it is for us to do it in Islamic
way because we consider it the right
way.

The Mahr
The Mahr is something that is paid
by the man to his wife. It is paid to
the wife and to her only as an honor
and a respect given to her and to
show that he has a serious desire to
marry her and is not simply entering
into the marriage contract without
any sense of responsibility and
obligation or effort on his part.
The Dowry
The dowry which is given willingly by
the woman by her family for her
married life as a gift is acceptable
according to Islam. But the husband
asking his going to be wife, asking
money or some other property for
marriage has no place in Islam.

Dowry is no longer a set of gift items meant for contributing towards a convenient
start of the
practical life of a newly married couple. Lavish and loud marriages, designers items
studded
bride, bridegroom and other family members, many course meals etc. all stand for the
dowry
system .In a country where a vast majority of population lives below poverty line and is
devoid of
basic human needs like water, sanitation, electricity. health and education the growing
trend of
such Exhibiting Marriages is adding to the miseries of the not so privileged. Over 95% of
marriages in every region of Pakistan involves transfer of a dowry from the bride's
family to a groom's family
Maher it is said to be the girls property but it has often seen that men make their
women to forgave them of it.

Music
Another paradox of our society is,
music. Music is forbidden in Islam.
Especially the kind of music that is
being produced these days.
We see musicians in our society, from
the street players to world famous
musicians, even though its a Muslim
country and music is clearly a
blasphemy.
Another delusional point is the folk
Sufi music, which is not yet classified
as right or wrong generally.
Islam
Islam tell women to cover herself
and men to lower their gaze
Allah says (interpretation of the
meaning): Tell the believing men to
lower their gaze

Conclusion
The Muslim society of Pakistan took great influence from Hindu and British
culture after long and intimate association. This influence is prominent from
the language, literature, art, painting , music, dress and diet, etc. of
Pakistan. In short, only customs leers the Islamic stamps which points
towards the great value of justice, brotherhood, equality and service to man
the authority westernization and modernization is not necessary. We should
adopt our seven culture. Although it often seems too daunting to hope that
the Muslim nation will one day be free of all those cultural beliefs, mindsets
and practices that have no basis or place in Islam, I do try to stay positive
and pray to ALLAH that a time will come, when the true knowledge of Islam
will become widespread, empowering and enabling all Muslims to raise
their next generations to believe, think, act and live in a manner that is
totally in accordance with the Sunnah of the Prophet and his
companions, IN SHA ALLAH
