Testing

Meaning
Testing is a hiring tool commonly used by
employers to vet prospective workers'
abilities. It is viewed as a prequalification
or pre-employment test that helps the
employer determine if an applicant should
be considered for an interview or offered a
job.

Skills Tested
Tests are used to measure everything from a
job-seeker's trade skills and verbal reasoning to
aptitude and personality traits. Sometimes,
employers want to gauge an applicant's overall
knowledge base. Other times, they want to
measure a candidate's abilities or potential for
specific jobs.

Reasons for Testing ( Purpose )
Employers use testing as a filtering
method. It also is used to supplement
traditional hiring methods, such as
interviews and resumes, during the job
search. A test can be administered at any
point during the process but most often is
given during the search.

clerical ability test
Clerical ability usually means being able to type and file
documents correctly, and basic bookeeping.

As stated previously above, Typing, Filing and Bookeeping are all
clerical tasks. Other items which are sometimes expected are
fielding phone calls and acting (in a light manner) of secretarial
duties such as appt setting or order entry. With the advent of
computers most clerical work now requires that you know how to
use windows and perhaps Microsoft Office to do the typing (in word)
the filing (files are now electronically placed) and the Appointment
setting (outlook) and other items.

Mechanical Ability Test
The Mechanical Ability Test
(MAT) provides a reliable and objective
measure of an individual's knowledge of
general mechanical concepts. These
include use of tools, reading rulers and
gauges, proper lifting techniques,
mechanical movements, assembly and
electrical concepts.
Mental Ability Test
Mental Ability Test is a test designed to assess mental ability quickly and easily
over a wide range of educational and ability levels, in staff selection, placement
and counselling.

A mental ability test is a test that generaly tests a person's mental abilities or
IQ. These tests are often viewed as not efficient because of the fact that these
types of examinations tend to only focus on a certain portion of a person's
inteligence. As such, these kinds of tests and examinations tend to focus on a
person's English, science, and mathematics IQ and knowledge rather than
other knowledge involving the arts, humanities, performing arts, and even
common sense. In other words, people are smart in more than one way.
However, free mental ability tests are abound on the web, and can be found in a
multitude of places and locations. For instance, free mental ability tests can be
found through psychology-related websites, medical-related websites,
websites that contain challenging yet fun puzzles and video games that help
enhance one's intelligence, and also through various journals and magazines.
