To ensure and enhance the quality of teacher
education, the HEC has constituted the
National Accreditation Council for Teacher
Education (NACTE) as an autonomous
body to accredit all teacher education
programs offered in the public and private
sector institutions in the country.

To prepare the competent and dedicated
teachers and empower them to educate the
future generations, the fundamental
requirements are very much available in the
professional literature which include standards
of what a Teacher Education Program should
be and be able to produce.

NACTE is looking after the matter regarding
the accreditation of institutions their
departments, faculties ,disciplines by giving
them appropriate ratings and define the
organization's objectives, functions and duties
to be performed.

All teacher education programmes being
offered or to be initiated in future within the
jurisdiction of the Council will receive
accreditation from the Council under the
following procedure: -

1: Any institution planning to offer a teacher
education course/programme may apply to
the Chairperson, NACTE.
2: The application must contain/attach
following information:
(a) Title of the course
(b) Duration of the course
(c) Level of the training
(d) Minimum eligibility qualification etc

The scheme of studies i.e. course outlines with
suggested readings and credit hours for each
course.
(f) Staff with their qualifications (academic and
professional)
(g) Books and journals available in the library
(h) Other facilities available in the institution i.e.
laboratories, playgrounds, equipment, etc.
(i) Buildings and infrastructure
(j) Other programmes being run

1) All the existing teacher education degree
programmes shall be within the jurisdiction of the
Council..

2) The accreditation will be for specific degree
programmes and not institutions.

3) Accreditation shall be mandatory for all relevant
academic programmes.

4) assist and advise teacher education
institutions in planning their programmes.

(5) support the intellectual development of
prospective teachers (students) interested in
pursuing the teaching profession.

Accreditation of Teacher Education Programs.
