Now about the gifts of the Spirit

(spiritual gifts), brothers and sisters, I
do not want you to be uninformed
(ignorant).

2
You know that when you were
pagans (unbelievers), somehow or other
you were influenced and led astray to
mute idols.

1Corinthians 12:1-2 NIV
What are Spiritual Gifts?
1 Corinthians 12:1 Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you
to be uninformed (ignorant).

Spiritual Gifts are God given abilities that edify
the church and glorify God.

"There are different gifts, but the same Spirit.
There are different kinds of service, but the
same Lord. There are different kinds of working,
but the same God works all of them in all men."
I Corinthians 12:4-6 NIV
Eight Reasons Why Every Christian
Should Know Their Spiritual Gift
1. Knowing your spiritual gift helps you understand
Gods will for your life.
2. Knowing your spiritual gift helps you know what
God has NOT called you to do.
3. Knowing your spiritual gift relieves you from
serving out of duty.
4. Knowing your spiritual gift helps you understand
how the Holy Spirit works through you.
Eight Reasons Why Every Christian
Should Know Their Spiritual Gift

5. Knowing your spiritual gift fills a deep inner
need or void in your life.
6. Knowing your spiritual gift builds unity among
Christians.
7. Knowing your spiritual gift equips you to
fulfill Gods purpose for your life.
8. Knowing your spiritual gift adds to your self-
acceptance.

What are Ministry Gifts?

Gifts from the Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus calls us to ministry for the edifying of the
body of Christ. Ministry Gifts define how you are
called to minister to The Body of Christ.

Ephesians 4:11 lists five callings for the equipping
of the saints for the work of ministry.

Ephesians 4:11-13 NIV

11
So Christ himself gave the apostles, the
prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and
teachers,

12
to equip his people for works of service, so
that the body of Christ may be built up

13
until we all reach unity in the faith and in the
knowledge of the Son of God and become
mature, attaining to the whole measure of the
fullness of Christ.
1. Apostles
2. Prophets
3. Evangelists
4. Pastors
5. Teachers

Define how you are called to minister to
the Body of Christ.
From celibacy to craftsmanship, countless other
Spiritual Gifts are alluded to in the Bible. Some of
these will include and define three additional
non-leadership ministries:

1. Helps
2. Administration
3. Intercession

What are Manifestation Gifts?

Gifts from the Holy Spirit

The Spirit manifests Himself through these
gifts to edify the church. Manifestation Gifts
define how you are used by the Holy Spirit.

I Corinthians 12:7-10 lists nine
Manifestation Gifts.
1. Word of wisdom
2. Word of knowledge
3. Faith
4. Healing
5. Miracles
6. Prophecy
7. Discernment
8. Tongues
9. Interpretation of tongues

1Corinthians 12:4-10 TNIV

1
Now about the gifts of the Spirit,

brothers and sisters, I do not want you to
be ignorant.

2
You know that when you were pagans,

somehow or other you were
influenced and led astray to mute idols.

3
Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of
God says, "Jesus be cursed,"

and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord,"

except by the Holy Spirit.
4
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit

distributes them.
5
There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
6
There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone

it
is the same God

at work.
7
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the
common good.
8
To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom,

to another a
message of knowledge

by means of the same Spirit,
9
to another faith

by the same Spirit, to other gifts of healing

by that one
Spirit,
10
to another miraculous powers,

to another prophecy,

to another
distinguishing between spirits,

to another speaking in different kinds
of tongues,

and to still another the interpretation of tongues.

What are Motivational Gifts?

Gifts from God the Father
Romans 12:3

In His grace God has given us each a gift that will
motivate us to service in the church.
Motivational Gifts define who you are in God.

Romans 12:6-8 lists seven gifts that describe the
energy behind our service:

1. Prophesying
2. Serving
3. Teaching
4. Exhortation
5. Giving
6. Leading
7. Mercy

3
For by the grace given me I say to every one of
you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you
ought, but rather think of yourself with sober
judgment, in accordance with the faith God has
distributed to each of you.

4
For just as each of us has one body with many
members, and these members do not all have the
same function,

5
so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and
each member belongs to all the others.
(Romans 12:3-5 NIV)
(Romans 12:6-8 TNIV)

6
We have different gifts,

according to the grace given
to each of us. If your gift is prophesying,

then
prophesy in accordance with your

faith;

7
if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then
teach;

8
if it is to encourage, then give encouragement;

if it
is giving, then give generously;

if it is to lead,

do it
diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

Spiritual Leadership Gifts

Church ELDERS
1Peter 5:1-5 NIV
1
To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a
witness of Christ's sufferings who also will share in the glory to
be revealed:

2
Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care,
watching over them--not because you must, but because you
are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest
gain, but eager to serve;

3
not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being
examples to the flock.

4
And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the
crown of glory that will never fade away. In the same way, you
who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders.

I Timothy 3:1-17

1
Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an
overseer desires a noble task.

2
Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife,
temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to
teach,

3
not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not
quarrelsome, not a lover of money.

4
He must manage his own family well and see that his children
obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full

respect.

5
(If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how
can he take care of God's church?)

6
He must not be a recent convert, or he may become
conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil.

7
He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that
he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap.

(Acts 20:28 NIV)
28
Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of
which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be
shepherds of the Church of God,

which He bought
with his own blood.

A and an from God!
Function, Privilege & Provision, Protection
1Timothy 5:17-20 NIV

17
The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are
worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is
preaching and teaching.

18
For Scripture says, "Do not muzzle an ox while it is
treading out the grain,"
1
and "The worker deserves his
wages."
19
Do not entertain an accusation against an elder unless
it is brought by two or three witnesses.

20
But those elders who are sinning you are to reprove
before everyone, so that the others may take warning.

Functions, Qualifications & Expectations
Titus 1:6-9 NIV
6
An elder must be blameless, faithful to his wife, a man whose
children believe

and are not open to the charge of being wild and
disobedient.

7
Since an overseer manages God's household, he must be
blameless--not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to
drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain.

8
Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good,
who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined.

9
He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been
taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and
refute those who oppose it.

1. Oversee or Supervises the Spiritual Life of
the Church
2. Manage or Lead the Church to Fullness in
Christ
3. Establish the Church by the Truth or Sound
Doctrine
4. Protect the Church from Errors and False
Doctrine or Teachings
5. Direct the affairs of the Church

Church DEACONS

1Timothy 3:1-15 NIV
8
In the same way, deacons

are to be worthy of respect, sincere, not
indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain.

9
They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear
conscience.

10
They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them,
let them SERVE as DEACONS.

11
In the same way, the women
(wives of deacons)
are to be worthy of respect,
not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything.

12
A deacon must be faithful to his wife and must manage his children
and his household well.

13
Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great
assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus.

14
Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing you these
instructions so that,
15
if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves
in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and
foundation of the truth.

Deacons, Primary Qualification ,Function & Delegation
Acts 6:2-6 NIV

2
So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, "It
would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of
God in order to wait on tables.

3
Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you
who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn
this responsibility over to them

4
and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the
word."

5
This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen,
a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus,
Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert
to Judaism.

6
They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and
laid their hands on them.
