Setting
This chapter hopes to give the readers a perspective of not
only the Philippines but also the business framework as well.
It is aimed to awaken the social consciousness of the Filipino
entrepreneur by putting into the entrepreneurial framework
the lessons learned from history as well as the values
prevalent among the Filipino people. This will also orient the
readers regarding the current state of Philippine business by
presenting some issues that the entrepreneurs as well as all
the Filipino have to deal with. It also provides valuable tips on
what business one might consider as well as the agencies that
the potential entrepreneur may go to for assistance
A. A Glimpse of the Philippines
The Philippines has a mountainous terrain
It has 30,000,000 hectares of land
7,100 islands compose the archipelago with Luzon, Visayas
and Mindanao as the largest regions
Most of the mountains are former volcanoes, the land is fit for
agricultural activities.
Rice, maize, fruits and vegetable grows best in the land
Abaca, coconut and sugarcane are just some of the products

particularly in Palawan and in the much contested Spartly
Islands.
The country also has an abundant supply of marine resources-
fishes, corals, and marine vegetation which are major source
of income to many island inhabitants
The country is rich in culture and tradition that can ascertain
