Role of Chemical Engineer

A chemical Engineer is responsible for developing

processes and manufacturing various chemicals using

the plant and equipment designed to meet the latest
National and International codes and standards and
Complying with safety, environmental and other
regulations.
He controls, manages and interacts effectively with
Engineers from various disciplines like Mechanical,
Electrical. Instrumentation, Civil and structural, and
Safety using the latest management skills to design,
erect, commission and operate chemical plants
meeting the above stated goals.

Role of Chemical Engineers in

Green Engineering-Todays
Challenge
Green engineering includes production of energy and

materials from GREEN feed stocks such as biomass

and microorganisms, with the intent of reducing
energy, waste, green house gases (GHG) and water
consumption. The other contributions that reduce
GHG emissions also support green engineering.
The objective is to curb GHG emissions to rates
sustainable by the earths natural sequestration
systems. Efficient use of fossil fuels and use of
renewable energy are required to meet this goal.

Conclusion.
Chemical industry is an essential arm of

our

nations economy.
The industry touches the lives of every one with
its varied products which finds application in
every field of human activity.
However, the Indian Chemical Industry is at the
cross roads today as its faces the following
challenges as per KPMGs Vision 2010 report
which is given below.

The constraints.
Inefficient & low capacity plants

High cost of manufacture

Low level of R&D

Low export focus in terms of
quality/delivery
