1. Win with inferior talent (control

superior Talent)
2. Dont block players by design
3. It forces defenses to play assignment
football
4. Opponents have hard time emulating
in practice
5. It controls random blitzing

6. Simple blocking schemes

7. Fun to practice
8. Can use Multiple formations to run
same plays
9. Easy to use audibles to attack the
weaknesses of defenses

Conventional offense: 5 Defenders to 4 Blockers

Double Option Play: 4 Defenders to 4 Blockers
Triple Option Play: 3 Defenders to 4 Blockers

Advantages of the Short Pistol

1. We have emphasized for years for the QB to step deep at 5
oclock or 7 oclock to mesh our triple play. The short pistol
accommodates our desire for depth by aligning the QB 2 1/2
yards away from the center.
2. We reduce the box with our alignment of our slots our slots
previously lined up 1 x 1 off of the outside leg of the tackle
when we were under center. Now they align 5 yards wide and
level with the quarterback. We did this to make the orbit
motion the correct angle.

Advantages of the Short Pistol

3. Quick passing game Our quarterback simply catches the
snap and is in position to throw the quick game.

4. It hits vertically quicker than the true shotgun or true

pistol and just a little slower than the under center
option game (we lost a yard on our fullbacks alignment).
5. It protects the mesh from being attacked.

Advantages of the Short Pistol

6. It allows us to widen our splits to 3 feet in the A gap and 3
1/2 feet in the B gap which spreads the defense out and
creates great blocking angles and natural creases.
7. It forces the hand-off key to be very definitive in his angle
to attack the dive back. Consequently, it makes the read
for the quarterback easier.
8. It gives the quarterback more time to read the hand-off
key and then transition his eyes to the pitch key, because
the pitch key is wider due to our alignment and line splits.

1. A two handed snap with end-to-end rotational spin. We had

two mishandled snaps this past season in over 750 snaps.

2. The running back lines up with his hand five yards from the
tip of the ball. He must be in a three point stance to hit the
hole fast. Looks unconventional, but necessary.

3. The slots must be lined up on the same horizontal plane as

the quarterback. Your motion must be quick and at an angle
where the defense cannot recognize the goal of the motion.
undetectable motion.

4. The quarterbacks footwork is more pivot style footwork

rather than stepping on an imaginary clock.
5. The quarterback has to be louder in our no huddle option
attack, he is our communicator.

The Plays Value

1. It is two plays in one to each side of the football. Many
people have called it a quarterback isolation.
2. 4 defenders vs. 4 blockers. By reading one defender,
it gives the offense a hat for a hat.
3. It often draws two point of attack defenders to
mistakenly take the wrong back.
4. It is the best red zone play in football.
5. The defense must demonstrate great discipline to defend
midline veer.
6. It is a low risk play.

All Together, is what you see

THE BULLDOG

Inside Veer represents half of our Run

Game.

Midline Veer represents about a Quarter

of our Run Game.

The other plays in our Run Game

represent the other Quarter of the Plays.

That is how it all fits in our system.

Be a Persistent Blocker

Two types of Slot Motion, the first is the counter

motion. Slot motions toward the hand of the RB,
then inserts to the play side to block LB.

The other is the orbit motion. Slot motions like

inside veer, but has to insert in the B gap to
block play side LB.

The shaded area represents where we want to run

the ball, the OT needs to create space with his drive
block.

If this play is executed properly, that shaded area

will expand by the Drive block of the OT & the 3-tech
reading his key (OG), and going to get dive. That is a
big hole to for a run defender to have to fill.
