Introduction
The current system of education around the world has taken the wrong turn. The emphasis
has only been on academic achievement and preparing one to face the job market. The
student of today is concerned with acquiring wealth, strength and position, but not good
qualities.
quantity of education has considerably increased, but the quality has decreased.
Why?
The
number of educated people has reached at a high level, but murder, hatred, and
selfishness have spread out like wildfire everywhere. Many institutions are opened,
but only few civilized people are produced. Why?
Degrees
are available for all, but the dignity has gone down. Why?
Trained
people are produced from many institutions, but sincere people are very few.
Why?
The only solution to these problem is that education should be based on value. And
therefore, we needed VALUE EDUACTION.
Global scenario
A new emphasis on moral values in curricular reforms can be observed in countries around the
world.
In
the UK, the National Curriculum for England 2000 has included a statement of values to
promote spiritual, moral, social, and cultural (SMSC) education.
In
Australia, the Adelaide Declaration on the objectives of schooling in the twenty-first century
lays emphasis on social, moral and spiritual development as much as on intellectual and physical
development.
In
Thailand, a key objective of the National Education Plan (2002-2016) is to build a society of
morality, wisdom, and learning.
In
post-apartheid South Africa, the constitutional values of truth, tolerance, and solidarity are
driving educational reforms.
The world has gradually come to realise that to eliminate increasing religious intolerance, violence,
and fatalism that characterise today's society, an education policy has to foster eternal values that
could promote the unity.
