Brief history and Loans

Brief History
Planters Development Bank was founded in
1976 after Jesus Tambunting acquired the
Bulacan Development Bank in 1971, and
the Malolos-based Bulacan and Savings
and Loan Associations in 1972, and
subsequently merged them together in
1975. In 1977, Plantersbank acquired thrift
institutions, Investors Savings and Loan
Association.

In 1983, Plantersbank made history when the
Netherlands Development Finance Company
(FMO), a Dutch state-controlled bank,
invested in Plantersbank. It marked the first
international investment in a Philippine
private development bank. For the next two
years, Plantersbank acquired the AgroIndustrial Bank in Pampanga, and the
Country Development Bank in Olongapo. In
1987, the Asian Development Bank made a
direct investment in Plantersbank.

In 2000, the International Finance Corporation,
which is the private investment bank of World
Bank invest P1 billion in equity, loans and grants
in Plantersbank bringing its foreign investors to
three. A year later, the IFC, FMO and
Plantersbank formed the Micro Enterprise Bank.
In 2002 and 2003 Plantersbank acquired Active
Bank and Region Bank (Los Banos Rural Bank),
the Philippines largest rural bank that time.

In 2006, Plantersbank absorbed Davaobased affiliate Micro Enterprise Bank
becoming the largest domestic bank to
establish a lending platform to support and
sustain a vibrant micro enterprise sector. Also
in the same year, Plantersbank and Chicagobased ShoreCap International Ltd. formalize
partnership to support small enterprises
through private finance and training support.
And in 2007, Plantersbank launched the 40hectare SME Business Park, the countrys
first industrial park dedicated to SMEs.

Criteria for Eligibility


Fixed-salaried individual working in the Philippines
At least 23 years old but not more than 65 years old
upon loan maturity
A permanent employee with a length of service in
current employer of at least 1 year (if less than 1
year, then total continuous work experience should

Manila and P20,000 for Provincial Areas
