CONSTRUCTION OF POH

WORKSHOP FOR
WAGONS AT
DALMIANAGAR

Purpose

Indian Railways wants to setup a new POH


Workshop for Wagons in Dalmianagar for
increasing the life of Wagons by doing the
POH(Periodic Overhauling), ROH(Routine
Overhauling)
&
NPOH
(Nominated
Overhauling)
Anand

Scope of Work
Scope of work includes earthwork, pilling works,
construction & designing of pre-engineering
sheds, steel structures, buildings, boundary wall,
road inside Workshop, water supply arrangement,
drainage,
sewerage
and
Power
supply
arrangement, OHE and supply, erection,
installation, testing and commissioning of
machinery and plant.

CIVIL
Shed : The scope covers design, supply , erection and commissioning of the
main shed for the Pre inspection Section, Bogie Repair Shop, Wagon Repair
Shop, Brake Section, Wheel Shop, & as well as shed for ancillaries.
Buildings: This scope covers the design and construction of various buildings
including administrative & miscellaneous facilities.
Water Supply Arrangement: This scope covers the water supply arrangement
to various sheds, washrooms and buildings with necessary pipelines, valves etc.

Drainage & Sewerage: This scope covers the construction of necessary


drainage arrangement in the form of special pipes of various diameters, surface
drains.
Roads: This scope covers the construction of roads, concrete roads & paver
blocks for pathways in the Workshop only.
Earth-fill & Levelling: This scope covers the filling up of low lying area of the
proposed workshop site with sand /earth/fly ash.

ELECTRICAL
Electrification of service building, sheds etc.
Supply, erection and commissioning of associated control equipment.
General illumination inside Workshop.
Power supply to various machinery & plant inside the shed with control panels.
Standby power supply through DG set.

MECHANICAL
This scope covers the supply, erection, installing, testing, and commissioning of
following machinery and plant/tools/gauges/instruments.
Traverser: These are required for moving the Wagon/Bogie from one track to
another, in a direction perpendicular to the track.
Overhead Cranes : These are required for mantling/dismantling and shifting the
heavy parts of Wagons.
Fork Lift: These are required for moving the heavy parts over the short distance.
Mobile Cranes : These are used for Loading and unloading the heavy Parts.

Manipulator: This is required to turn the Bogie Frame and the Shell of Wagon
for the maintenance Purpose.
Hydraulic Jack: This is required for Lifting the Wagon for the Maintenance
Purpose.
Turn Tables: This is required for rollover of Bogie Frame from one track to
another.
CNC Surface Wheel Lathe: This required for the re-profiling new or worn-out
wheels when dismantling from the Wagons.
CNC Vertical Turning and Boring machine: This is required for turning and
boring for the wheel.

Axle Journal Turning & Burnishing Lathe: Turning & Roller burnishing of inboard & out-board journals of axles of wheel sets.
Hydraulic Press: This is required for the mounting & dismounting of wheel
centers, Wheel Discs, gear, gear units & collars of wagons.
Shearing Machine: This is required for cutting the sheet metal in Proper
dimensions.
Portable Arc Welding machines : These are required for welding the new
sheets /Plates with the shell of the Wagons in place of the corroded parts of the
shell and also for repairing the friction Liners.
Ultrasound Flaw Detector : This is required for checking the Cracks in the
Wheels , Wheel axles & in the bogie frames/structures etc..

Bearing Washing Machine: This is required for the cleaning the bearings during

the maintenance.
Tool Boxes : These are required for mechanical & electrical maintenance .
Tool Room Machineries : These are required for carrying out various activities

such as turning, facing, drilling, boring, threading, grinding of the different Wagon
parts.
Mechanical Work Bench: These are required for providing the sturdy &

Convenient facility for the overhauling of the subassemblies of the Wagons.


Hydraulic Extractor: These are required for removal & fitment of CTRB from the

axle.
Gas Cutters: These are required for cutting the corroded part from the shell of the

Wagon & from other parts.

Compressor along with distribution system: These are required for generating

pressurized air flow for cleaning purpose.


DG Set

: This is required for standby power supply.

Other Essential Facilities


Paint Shop: This is required for painting the shell body & various different parts of

the Wagon.
Brake Repair Section: This is required for maintenance of the Air brake System.
Bogie Repair section: This is required for repairing the sub-assemblies of the

bogie like Springs, Adapter, Bearers, Liners etc.

Smithy/Hammer Shop: This is required for bending, Cutting & hammering the

different parts with the help of the Heat treatment.


Buffer Section: This section is required for repairing the the buffer and the

Coupler.
Wheel Shop
Wheel Assembly: This section is required for assembling the wheel on the wheel

axles with the Hydraulic Press and Profiling the Axles with the Axle journal
Turning and burnishing Lathe.
Wheel Repairing: This is required for re profiling the wheel with the Surface Wheel

Lathe.
Roller Bearings: Greasing & Cleaning of the Roller bearings.

Cartridge Taper Roller Bearing Fitting Shop: This section is required for mounting

and dismounting the Bearings on the wheel axle with the help of the Hydraulic
Extractors.
Corrosion Repair Shop: Corroded/rusted parts of the wagon are cutting with the

gas cutters and new sheets are weld on the shell of the Wagon with the Welding
Sets.
Finish Shop: All the sub assemblies of the Wagon are assemble in this section &

finally go out from the Workshop.


Used oil disposal facility : Required for proper disposal of used oil to prevent from

environmental hazards.
Furniture : Required for administrative and other purposes.

trouble shooting in hardware and software of these machines without any
assistance from supplier.
They are also capable to modify the electrical system as per Indian standard.

art Design Software for engineering any sophisticated machine
to specific requirement.
