QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH

BY:
SOLECHAH

DEFINITION
Quantitative

research research that relies

primarily on the collection of quantitative
data.
Quantitative

methods
are
research
techniques that are used to gather
quantitative data - information dealing with
numbers and anything that is measurable.
Statistics, tables and graphs, are often used
to present the results of these methods.
(Wikipedia).
Quantitative

Research Research which

the truth proven in numbers.

OBJECTIVES
The objective of quantitative research is
to develop and employ
mathematical models, theories and/or
hypotheses pertaining to phenomena.
The process of measurement is central
to quantitative research because it
provides the fundamental connection
between empirical observation and
mathematical expression of quantitative
relationships.

CHARACTERISTICS
Values

objectivity through the discovery of facts or

truths.
Test pre-established hypotheses through the
collection and measurement of data.
Establishes cause and effect relationships.
Intervenes in the research context and controls
variables.
Reduces data to measurable quantities.
Ensures reliability through the consistency and
replicability of methods.
Generalizes beyond the research population.
Focuses on research outcomes that confirm or
disconfirm hypotheses.

TYPES OF QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH

Description
Correlation

Experiment

QUANTITATIVE DESCRIPTION
This Quantitative Research only
studies one subject and one object
of the research.
Object of the research means what is studied
(variable).
Subject of the research means who is studied
(population).
For example: Research on Reading Comprehension for
6 F.

QUANTITATIVE CORRELATION
It discusses one subject with more
than one object.
The result is an index correlation or coefficient
correlation to know whether it is positive or
negative.
For example: Research on the correlation between
Reading and Writing ability for 6 F.

QUANTITATIVE COMPARISON
It discusses one subject for more
than one object.
The result is an index comparison or coefficient
comparison.
For example: Research on Reading Comprehension for
male and female students.

QUANTITATIVE EXPERIMENT
It looks like the comparison but the
comparison is not the achievement
but the method.
The result is that Method A is better than Method
B.
For example: Research on Reading Comprehension for
male and female students using picture or game.

HOW TO CONDUCT
Because Quantitative Research talking
about numbers so it needs statistic.
Statistics is the most widely used branch of
mathematics in quantitative research
Quantitative research is generally made using
scientific methods, which can include:
The generation of models, theories and hypotheses
The development of instruments and methods for
measurement
Experimental control and manipulation of variables
Collection of empirical data
Modeling and analysis of data
Evaluation of results

EXAMPLE:
RESEARCH ON READING COMPREHENSION ON 6 F
1. Arrange the test of Reading (multiple choice)
2. Make the Try-Out (give the test to other class (6 A)
(Then we can see which item is good or not good)
Four criteria of a good test (valid reliable
discriminating power level of difficulty)
3. Then after the test complete the level the test is
given to Class 6 F.
4. Then we give the score and analyze the score.
5. After making the activity of the research we make
the description (thesis).
