1. Opening AutoCAD 2007

AutoCAD 2007 is designed to work in a Windows operating system. In general, to

open AutoCAD 2007, either double-click on the AutoCAD 2007 shortcut in the
windows desktop or right-click on the icon, followed by a left-click on Open in
the menu which then appears

FUNCTION OF BUTTONS IN STATUS BAR
SNAP: also toggled using the F9 key. When set on, the cursor under mouse control can only be
moved in jumps from one snap point to another.
GRID: also toggled using the F7 key. When set on, a series of grid points appears in the
drawing area.
ORTHO: also toggled using the F8 key. When set on, lines etc. can only be drawn vertically or
horizontally.
POLAR: also toggled using the F10 key. When set on, a small tip appears showing the direction
and length of lines etc. in degrees and units.
OSNAP: also toggled using the F3 key. When set on, an osnap icon appears at the cursor pick
box.
OTRACK: when set on, lines etc. can be drawn at exact coordinate points and precise angles.
DUCS: Dynamic UCS. Also toggled by the F6 key. Used when constructing 3D solid models.
DYN: Dynamic Input. When set on, the x,y coordinates and prompts show when the cursor hairs are
moved.
LWT: when set on, lineweights show on screen. When set off, lineweights only show in
plotted/printed drawings.
*It is advisable to toggle between Snap, Ortho, Osnap and the other functions in order to make
constructing easier

START A DRAWING

The recommended method is to start with a drawing template file.

A drawing template file contains predefined settings, standards and definitions that will
save you significant setup time.
When start a drawing with drawing template, these settings are passed on to the new
drawing. Drawing template files include settings and basic drawing elements that you will
use often, such as

Your product folder includes many drawing template files, including some that
facilitate compliance with ANSI, DIN, ISO and JIS standards.

INITIAL SETTING

To adapt acadiso.dwt template you must follow this steps

INTRODUCTION TO AUTOCAD 2007

Choose a drawing units

To choose a drawing units, follow below instruction. The Drawing Units

Format dialog box will appear. Note that the change in the coordinate units
showing in the status bar

INTRODUCING DRAWING
Choose a template for layout

To open a new project, select File New and Select Template window will appear.
Then, select type of template that you want to use and click Open.
Previously, the LIMITS were set to 420,297 (coordinates within which a drawing can
be constructed), this drawing will be based on an A3 sheet.
You may change the LIMITS setting based on your preference as per table below.

INTRODUCING DRAWING
Saving drawing

When a drawing has been constructed, left click on File in the

menu bar and on Save as in the drop down menu. The
Save Drawing As dialog appears

INTRODUCING DRAWING
Start Commands on the Command Line

You can initiate commands by typing them on the command line within the command window
instead of using toolbars or menus. Additionally, some commands must be completed on the
command line regardless of how they are started

Use of Dynamic Prompt

In addition to the prompt on the command line, a similar prompt is displayed next to the
cursor called the dynamic prompt

INTRODUCING DRAWING
Draw
The line is the most basic objects that you will use. A line can be one segment or a series of
successive segments, but each segment is a separate line object. If you need to draw a series of
line segments as a single objects, use a polyline.
Polygons are closed polylines with equal-length sides and angles. The polygon command is the
simplest method for creating equilateral triangles, squares, pentagons, hexagons and so on
You can create a variety of curved objects, including circles and arcs

INTRODUCING DRAWING
Specify Angles and Distances

You can quickly specify angles and distances using the polar tracking,
direct-distance entry and angle override features
Use polar tracking
As you draw lines or move objects, you can use polar tracking to restrict the movement
of the cursor to specified angle increments (the default value is 90 deg)
For example, you can create a series of perpendicular lines by turning ON Polar before
you start drawing

INTRODUCING DRAWING
Set Grid and Snap Values

Grid displays a rectangular pattern of dots that extends over the area specified by the
drawing grid limits. The grid helps you align objects and visualize the distances between
them. The grid does not appear in the plotted drawing.
Snap restricts the movement of the crosshairs to intervals that you have defined. When
snap is ON, the cursor seems to adhere, or snap to an invisible grid. Snap is useful for
specifying precise points with the cursor.

Snap to Precise Points on Objects

Using object snaps is the most important way to specify an exact

location on an object without having to use coordinates. For example,
you can use an object snap to draw a line to the exact center of a circle,
to the endpoint of another line segment, or to the tangent on an arc

ZOOM, PAN AND TEMPLATES

Zoom to magnify a view

A view is a specific magnification, position and orientation of your design. The most common way
to change a view is zooming. Zooming increases or decreases the magnification of the image
displayed in the drawing area

ZOOM, PAN AND TEMPLATES

Zoom to display the Entire Drawing
Use the extents option of the ZOOM command to display the entire drawing. This is useful
when you need to return to an overall view quickly. It also useful if your drawing area is blank
as a result of zooming in too close on a blank area or panning too far off the drawing area

ZOOM, PAN AND TEMPLATES

Pan to reposition a view
Panning is another common way to change a view. Panning moves the position of the image
displayed in any two-dimensional direction

LAYER PROPERTIES
Organize Drawings with layer

Each layer includes an assigned color, linetype and lineweight. Before you create
objects, you set the layer on which the objects are to be created. This is called the
current layer. By default, the current layers color, linetype and lineweight are
assigned automatically to the new objects you create.

LAYER PROPERTIES

Turn off layers Use this option rather than freezing if you frequently need to
switch a layers visibility

Freeze layers Use this option if you dont need a layer to be visible for a long
time.

Lock layers Use this option to prevent objects on a layer from being modified

LAYER PROPERTIES
1. Object Properties Overview
All objects that you create have properties. Object properties are settings that control
the appearance and geometric characteristics of an object.
2. Assign object properties
By layer Properties are assigned to a layer. Objects that are drawn on that layer
automatically use those properties
Individual properties Properties are assigned to objects individually, regardless of
the layer that they are drawn on

Click to change a property

Click the icon to expand or collapse a

category of properties

Right click to set palette behavior

LAYER PROPERTIES
Use the Properties and Layers Toolbars
You can use the controls in the properties toolbar and the layers toolbar
to view, set and modify the properties the same way as the properties
palette. By default, these toolbars are displayed above the drawing area.
The properties toolbar provides convenient access to the most important
object properties.

LAYER PROPERTIES
Use Linetypes
You can associate a single linetype with all of the objects drawn on
the same layer or you can assign linetypes individually to objects.
To use a linetype, you must first load it into your drawing using
the Linetype manager

THE MODIFY TOOLS

Modify toolbar is the most frequently tools that use to modify parts of drawing
that have been made.
The tool icons are found in the Modify drop-down menu or in the Modify toolbar
in the workspace or in the lower set of tool icons in the Draw control panel.
