Installation

-Before connecting the unit, the interior of the pipework should be

cleaned ro remove waste (could be trapped in spacer studs)

- Connecting pipework should be provided with valves to isolate

the unit and by-pass lines are recommended

- Use adjustable speed pumps

-When using steam as heating medium provide a steam trap
preferably with automatic venting of non- condensables

Start- Up
-

During shipment relaxation of covers gaskets and/or loosening

of hookbolts may accur. Hook bolts assemblies should be
tightened to prevent leakages.

The colder of the fluids or the fluid which temperature is

nearest to ambient should be first turned on.

To avoid hydraulic shock change pressure and flow gradually

and slowly

Check that the unit is vented and filled with fluid before fully
opening the inlet valve

Use filters if necessary

Start- Up
- All residual air or entrained gas should be removed by venting
to atmosphere. When the SHE is turned down and isolated, it
can be drained.
HORIZONTAL UNITS
Self venting via the upper A2
and B1
Equipped with valves A3 and B3
for the phase of draining.
Machined grooved from the
center to periphery to facilitate a
total draining of all the coils.

Start- Up
VERTICAL UNITS
Vented by B2 as well as the
valve A3.
Draining is via lower A1 and the
valve B3.
For bolted or closed center
suplemmentary drains and vents
can be added on request.

Operation
- Avoid sudden changes in fluid flow rates to eliminate hydraulic
shock and fatigue effects caused by thermal expansion and
contractions.
- Maintain flow rates at design values. At lower velocities,
pressure losses are reduced as is thermal efficiency. Flow rates
much lower than design values may also result in accelerating
fouling.

Shut Down
- Whenever possible allow the fluid with the inlet temperature
closest to ambient temperature to circulate after the other fluid
has been shut off.
- All flow rates should be reduced slowly to avoid shocks.
- The unit should not be drained if the shut-down period is short
and the unit is not opened, as this extend the start-up period.
Whenever there is a risk of corrosion from a stationary liquid,
the unit should be flushed and drained.
