ERASMUS MUNDUS

The program supports European top-quality

masters courses and enhances the visibility and
attractiveness of European higher education in third
countries. It also provides EU-funded scholarships
for third-country nationals participating in these
masters courses, as well as for EU-nationals
studying at partner universities around the world.
List of all courses can be found at
http://ec.europa.eu/education/programmes/mundus/p

Structure of the Program

Mostly, masters degree involves 2 years
studies at two different European
institutions
Others comprise of four semesters at
four/three different partner institutions

Relevant Courses

It is not difficult to save Rs.22-24 lacs in
two years of study and thats a lot of money
for you to do anything after your masters.

After Graduation
Can go anywhere for PhD esp. in Europe
the program is highly reputed
Or can join industry. Mostly people are
employed in the country of their second
year of study

De-MERITS:
Language problem
More emphasis on coursework
A continuous state of mobility

World famous beaches
Scholarships are of very good value (~AUD
25,000/year + topup) so lots of savings possible
Large Muslim community
Among very few countries who still grant
Permanent Residency and Citizenship

The University of Western Australia
Australian National University
The University of Sydney
The University of Melbourne
The University of Queensland
Monash University
The University of New South Wales
The University of Adelaide

Study in Australia
Main Scholarship is Endeavour International
Postgraduate Scholarship (EIPRS)
The deadline is around August every year
Very competitive (among top 5 of your batch)
2 years duration for Masters by Research and
3.5 years for PhD
Most scholarships are for PhD and some for
Masters by Research
In Australia, Bachelors Degree (16 years
education) is enough for getting PhD admission

Study in Australia
To apply for the scholarship contact Professor to
supervise thesis (send email to the professors in
your area of interest asking for supervision)
Apply for admission (online procedure) and
scholarship in parallel (these are separate
applications)
Application for admission to research degree
can be made any time
Scholarship applications have deadlines

Study in Australia
Masters by course work is very expensive
At any Go8 university only tuition fee is
about AUD 30,000/year + living expenses
Only 20 hours/week work is allowed
Without scholarship hard to save enough
money to pay tuition fee for course work

Letter of Recommendations (LOR)
Usually two or three letters of
recommendation are required
Some letters need to come from your
instructors (professors), but others can come
from employers, research advisors
Think about whether the letter will be relevant
Ask from teachers with whom you did some
projects or have some publications
SEAL THEM with STAMP AND SIGNATURE

WHAT GOES IN APPLICATION ENVELOP?

Letter of Recommendations (LOR)
Letter 1: I highly recommend student X for
your graduate program. Student X received
an A+ in my undergraduate algorithms class.
He was ranked Number 2 out of 100
students. He got the highest score on the
final. He worked very hard all semester,
never missed a class, and was always able to
answer the questions that I asked in class.
This conscientious attitude makes him an
excellent candidate for any graduate
program.

WHAT GOES IN APPLICATION ENVELOP?

Letter of Recommendations (LOR)
Letter 2: I highly recommend student Y for your
graduate program. Student Y received a B in my
undergraduate algorithms class. He was ranked
Number 29 out of 100 students. Halfway through the
semester we started working on network flows.
Student Y seemed extremely excited by this topic. He
disappeared for 4 weeks and even missed an exam.
However when he came back, he showed me some
work he had been doing on a new network flow
algorithm for high-degree graphs. He had done some
simulations and had some proofs. Ive been working
with student Y for the past couple months since then
and he is full of ideas for new algorithms. I think
student Ys initiative makes him an excellent candidate
for any graduate program.

WHAT GOES IN APPLICATION ENVELOP?

Letter of Recommendations (LOR)
Letter 1 counts ZERO marks
Letter 1 depicts no additional info, just
mentioned DID WELL IN CLASS, which
transcripts do
Letter 2 is strong as it describe student
expertise and abilities

WHAT GOES IN APPLICATION ENVELOP?

Statement of Purpose (SOP)
MARKET YOURSELF You are not there in front of the
admission committee!
Keep it short ONE PAGE
Make it relevant
Why you want to attend graduate school?
What you hope to accomplish?
How you plan to accomplish it?
What you plan to pursue after graduate studies?
Emphasize any research experience
Emphasize qualities that make you unique and desirable
Briefly explain any embarrassing grades and Experience
A Good SOP take months, make it read by other persons
