Role focused OD

interventions

An individual entering an
organization gets integrated through
his/her role, and the degree of
integration depends on the dynamics
of the role.

Characteristics of role focused

interventions
The role focused interventions
represent an approach and a
philosophy of working in an
organization.

Mutuality
Role interventions attempt to build
mutuality amongst roles.
Mutuality is the function of trust and a
perception of the importance and
power of the other role as well as
ones own.
If a role occupant perceives the other
role or his own to lack power, the
relationships will become exclusive.

Creativity
Creativity is related to internal focus
of control.
It attempts to stimulate persons in
an organization to look for new
solutions to the problems they face
in working together.
It can be achieved by looking at the
problems from different angles.

Confrontation
Philosophy is that problems can be
solved if they are brought to the
surface and a conscious attempt is
made to search solution.
Interventions attempt to help various
role occupants confront their
problems.

Exploration
Effective solution can come about
through exploration rather than
through acceptance of an ideal
solution.
Exploration implies joint effort at
understanding the problem and
weighing the alternate solution.

ROLE ANALYSIS
Expectations from member of the
role set( the role occupant also being
a role sender) requires that a role be
defined by such expectations.
This ca be done by role analysis
which may help evolve an agreed
understanding of the main functions
of a role.

of the main functions of the role, its place
