SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The target area for the study is confined to Chennai
city
and the time constraint limits from conducting a

large-scale survey.

accepted. Hence most of the Companies prefer to outsource
their IT Services.

 In Manufacturing Sector, Increasing productivity is the major
business priority.
 In IT/ITES Sector, improving core strength is the major business
priority.
 In Logistics Sector, Cost cutting is the major business priority.
 In Non Traditional Services, improving core strength is the major
business priority.
 Optimizing IT spend is the major IT challenge in the IT/ITES sector.
 Information security is the major IT challenge in the non-traditional
sector.
 Evaluating and selecting new products/technologies is the major IT
challenge in the manufacturing sector.
 Optimizing IT spend is the major IT challenge in the Logistics
sector.
 Manufacturing, logistics and IT/ITES sectors spend most of their IT budget
for maintenance. Non-traditional sector spends the most in support
services.
 Manufacturing sector and logistics sector spend 60% of their IT budget for
outsourced services. IT/ITES sector spends 56% and Non-traditional
sector spends 55% for outsourced services.
 100% in IT/ITES sector, 90% in manufacturing sector, 97% in logistics
sector and 85% in non-traditional sector feel backup is very important for
their business.
 70% in IT/ITES sector and 38% in non-traditional sector can sustain for 4
hours after their critical application fails whereas 37% in manufacturing
sector and 48% in Logistics sector can withstand for 12 hours after
failure of their critical IT application.
 54% in non-traditional sector, 51% in IT/ITES sector, 47% in manufacturing
sector and 36% in logistics sector do in-house management of their IT
infrastructure.
 Most of the organizations in manufacturing, logistics, IT/ITES and non-
traditional sector prefer to outsource their IT Services.

Suggestions
 Audio-visual materials can be distributed to SME’s to give
them a clear understanding of Remote IT infrastructure
Management Services.
 In SME’s IT usage is limited so first a need creation can be
done and then focus can be made on IT infrastructure
management.
 Sponsored articles can be given to publications like Economic
Times and other business journals to gain publicity.
 Deep expertise can be created for each industry.

Conclusion
Most of the organizations in manufacturing, logistics, IT/ITES

and non-traditional sector are willing to outsource their IT


management services as they can eliminate most of their IT
challenges . Also, the critical IT components used in each
sector can be remotely monitored to avoid their downtime
using this service. Thus, the scope of RIMS is high in Small &
Medium Enterprises.
