Ethical standards of police

Intl. assc. Of police chiefs

Principle 1
Police officers shall
conduct themselves, on or off duty,
in accordance with Consitution.

Principle 2
P.O. shall
Refrain from any conduct in official
capacity that erodes public faith in the
integrity of police dept.
Rules
Carry out duty with
integrity/fairness/impartiality reports,
evidences, ---- no violation of rights of
person, obey lawful orders, report to
seniors.

Principle 3
P.O. shall
Perform duties &apply law---impartially/no
prejudice/discrimination ::diverse communities
refrain from fostering disharmony w.r.t.
race,creed,religion,sex,age,status,marital etc.
Rules provide every person with
professional/effective/efficient l.e.services
_no expression of prejudice
_no l.e. decisions influenced by
race,colour,creed,religion etc.

Principle 4
P.o. shall
Not exhibit any conduct which
discredits him/dept. in providing
l.e.services
Rules ---no alcohol/smoking/narcotics
on duty in uniform---no sexual
harassment,sexual favour,indescent
exposure---no domestic
violence/personal association with

Principle 5
P.O. shall
Treat all courteously & with respect
frontline staff-most visible form of
Govt.
Rulescourtesy with public ,fellow
officers ,superiors, subordinates---no
ridicule, mock, deride,
taunt,belittle,wilfully embarrass
,humiliate,or shame s.b.to incite
violence

Principle 6
P.O. shall
Not compromise integrity by
accepting, giving, soliciting any
gratuity for influencing official
position

Principle 7
P o shall not compromise integrity, of self / Department by
INFLUENCING actions when a conflict of interest exists.
Rules
P O shall, unless required by law or policy, refrain from becoming
involved in official matters, or influencing actions of other P O s in official
matters, impacting the officer's immediate family, relatives, or persons
with whom the officer has or has had a significant personal relationship.

shall not use the authority of their position as PO or information
available to them due to their status as P O, for any purpose of personal
gain including initiating or furthering personal and/or intimate interaction
with persons with whom the officer has had contact while on duty.
shall not engage in any off duty employment if the position
compromises officer's ability to impartially perform duties.

Principle 8
P O shall observe the confidentiality of information available
to them due to their status as police officers.
-- shall not knowingly violate any legal restriction for the
release or dissemination of information.
-- shall not, except in the course of official duties or as
required by law, publicly disclose information likely to
endanger or embarrass victims, witnesses or complainants.
-- shall not divulge the identity of persons giving confidential
information except as required by law or Department policy.
