INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND STUDY
Security is an essential part of our lives and the ever increasing number of burglary in our society
today has been a major issue recorded over the years and this has made us uncomfortable.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Has no means of personally informing the homeowner of an

intruder.

False alarms.

PROBLEM OBJECTIVES

Sending SMS to multiple users should incase ones phone is

off.

Reduce the occurrences of signalling false alarms.

PROBLEM SIGNIFICANCE

Signal an audible alarm signal to its surroundings.

OPENING WITH SOUND ALERT

BY

WILLIAMS NYARKO AND THEOPHILUS OSEI (2013)

Fig 2.3: Diagram of the door opening alert circuit

The door alarm opening circuit is used for alerting you when a customer is at
your office or shop. It will produce a beep sound when each customer or
visitor is entering, and will automatically switch OFF after few seconds.
Results
It automatically operates by opening the door.
It gives a beep sound alert.
Easy to install.
limitations
- No means of informing the homeowner/user of an ongoing threat in
his/her house.
- There could be a possibility of an intrusion without the intruder opening
the door and channel his/her through other means.

Fig 2.4 Simple shadow alarm circuit

This is the circuit of a simple burglar alarm that produces a loud beep when
somebody crosses the area or door. It is used for protection against intruder by
sensing a shadow movement from a distance. When somebody approaches the unit it
will produce a loud alarm to abort the attempt of theft.
Results
The sensor is very sensitive.
The circuit is easy and cheap to put together.
limitations
Based on this particular project, we realized that the probability of having false
alarm is high due to the high sensitivity of the sensor. We also noticed that this
particular system caters only for burglar/intruder detection system by signaling an
audible alarm. This system has no means of personally informing the user by
sending an SMS when he/she is not at home to its multiple users should incase ones
phone is off.

SMITH (2011)

Fig 2.5 Circuit diagram for the sensor and the transmitter

EXCELLENCE IN TECHNOLOGY
EDUCATION

The system has two main parts; an intruder sensor cum transmitter and a receiver. The
intruder sensor reacts to light, sound and mechanical movements. When the sensor
detects a disturbance, the transmitter gets triggered and begins to send wireless signals.
The receiver placed away from the transmitter receives the signals and produces an
audio alarm.

Results
The distance between the receiver and transmitter could be very long.
Limitations
Based on this particular project, this system has no means of personally informing the
user of any ongoing security threat by sending an SMS/information to multiple
numbers even if the phone is off or when he/she is not at home. Also the use of a
wireless receiver and transmitter brings about problems due to frequency allocation .

CONCLUSION
From the reviews done in the purpose of improving the security sector ,
we identified the following limitations in the current architecture:
False alarms.
Costly design.
It has no means of informing the homeowner/user of an ongoing threat
when he/she is not at home.
We intend to solve these problems by adopting the techniques with the
implementation of smart alarming features that is also able to inform
homeowner/user of an ongoing threat by sending an SMS to multiple users
should incase ones phone is off; opted into the security system.
