Lesson 2: Liquefy

 To understand how to use the more

advanced tools in Adobe Photoshop.

 To understand how to use the liquefy filter

when manipulating or distorting a Jpeg
image.

 To document your findings and final pieces

in a PowerPoint presentation, that will be
added to as the weeks go by.
 If you are caught messing on the Internet,
the following punishments will apply:

 Once: Banned from the Internet (on any

part of the school network) for 24 hours.
 Twice: Banned from the Internet for 48
hours.
 Thrice: Banned from the Internet for a
WEEK.

 This has been agreed with the I.T. Staff, and

will apply across the school. I will be
emailing them names straight after class.
Photoshop is located the “Art” Folder
in the Start menu. This is located to
the bottom left of your screen.

When you first open Photoshop, it will

look like the picture to the right.
Before you can begin manipulating,
first you must have a photograph to
work on!

Go to file, and click “Open”.

The photos you will be
working from today are
located in the shared
areas for students and
teachers.

To find this, click on the

“Look In” drop-down box
in the “Open” window.

Scroll down until you get

to “Student_common$”

Your photographs will be

in Art > Year 9 photos
Your screen should
now look something
like this.

You are now ready to

start manipulating!

Before you
start, save
this picture in
your personal
folder.
Liquefy is located
in the “Filter”
drop down box
along the top of
the screen.

The liquefy tool

will open in a new
window.
 Different buttons will manipulate the
buttons in different ways.

 Play around with the filters to see what they

do at first.
This tool can be used to smear the picture in what ever
direction you like.
The bloat tool
expands an
area, like the
eye to the
right.
There is also
a tool that
makes areas
smaller!
This tool swirls
the pixels around.
The left eye has
been done subtly,
and the right eye
has been done to
the extreme.
This tool, well, it pushes the
pixels to the left.
This tool
makes a
mirror image
of what has
been clicked.
This tool distorts
randomly.
If there is an area that you
don’t want to be affected,
draw over it with the freeze
tool.

Freezes an area

Unfreezes an
area
Here is the type of
effect you can get
using all the tools!

Remember to
“Save As”
You will be printing your
image out, and drawing
over it, don’t overdo it.
Subtle is funnier.
Francis Bacon

Remember, you are basing your

image on the work of Francis Bacon
(who you should have been
researching this week). Plus points to
link his work to yours in the
PowerPoint!!!
PowerPoint
 Continue to use PowerPoint to document
your progress.
 Remember to take some screengrabs to

show the different stages of your work.

 Add on to the PowerPoint you started last

week.
