Microeconomics
Study of behavior of individual households, firms, and governments
Choices they make
Interaction in specific markets

Focuses on individual parts of an economy, rather than the

whole
Examples:
How many management trainee jobs will open up for college
graduates?
How would U.S. phone companies be affected by a tax on imported cell
phones?

Macroeconomics
Study of the economy as a whole
Focuses on big picture and ignores fine details
Examples:
Instead of focusing on the production of
carrots, it looks at GDP (Gross Domestic
Product)
Instead of focusing on the employment of
management trainees, it considers total employment
(or unemployment rate) in the economy.

Is there a role for government in the economy?

Heritage analyst Karen Campbell--

*the government must focus on maintaining economic

stability. Fiscal responsibility is an important part of
that stability. Government debt can quickly become a
burden on the economy and weaken its foundations.
Economic stability refers to an economy that experiences
constant growth and low inflation. Advantages of having a
stable economy include increased productivity, improved
efficiencies, and lowunemployment

Economic Objectives of the Government

Most of the governments round the world have four main
objectives. These are
Keep inflation under control
Maintain a low level of unemployment
Achieve a high level of growth rate
Maintain a healthy balance of payments.

Macroeconomics
Study of the economy as a whole
Focuses on big picture and ignores fine details
Examples:
Instead of focusing on the production of carrots, it looks at GDP.
Instead of focusing on the employment of management
trainees, it considers total employment (or unemployment rate)
in the economy.
Instead of asking why credit card loans carry high interest rate
than home mortgage loans, it asks what makes interest rates in
general rise or fall.

The top 3 problems of the Philippines

1.

Poverty is common in our country. We are doom of poverty

because there are many poor families and we have slow progress in our
economy.
Yes, we have government to help us and the poor people and families out
there but there are so many of them because we have high levels of
population growth and slow developing agriculture sector. These
are
one of the causes of the poverty. We are known as one of the poor
countries in the
world because of poverty. We consider this a major problem and belong to
the top 3

2. corruption

is one of the top 3 problems in the

Why? We consider this as one of the top 3 problems in the
Philippines
because

the
money of the Filipino people. The tax that we paid is the one who they stole
from us. A good example for that is the PDAF. Napoles, we all know her, who stole
millions of pesos just to have a good life. She stole that money from the taxes that
we paid. Another example is the government who we think he will build a project
because we pay taxes but they just pay the half of the project and the other half is
for them. Government and those who are in charge of the taxes should be
responsible of the taxes that the Filipino people pays. They should not corrupt
because it is the peoples money. It is the countrys money. We need it for building
projects. If there are no corruption, the economic progress of the country will be
fast, not slow. Because of the corruption, it makes the progress slow. Corruption also
is the cause why we have poverty.

3. Unemployment

is consider a top 3 problems in

the
Philippines. We consider this as a top 3 problems in the
Philippines because it is also
cause of poverty. It is also the reason why we have slow
economic progress . The reason why we have
unemployment because of poverty, education or
simply the people are

lazy to get a job. And also, we have

high population growth.

There are many jobs in the Philippines but there are more
people than jobs. Some
people cant find a job anymore because of overpopulation.
