INTRODUCTION TO ANGKOR
WAT

Angkor Wat is a temple which is located in


Siem Reap province. The Angkor Wat
temple was constructed by king
Suryavarman II, in the beginning of 12th
century in the year of 1113 AD.

The temple is at the top of the high


classical style of Khmer architecture. It has
become a symbol of Cambodia, appearing
on its national flag, and it is the country's
prime attraction for visitors. Angkor Wat is
a great temple in Angkor area and it is one
of the seven wonder in the world and a
temple which become the world heritage in
December 15, 1992.

ANGKOR WAS THE CAPITAL OF THE KHMER EMPIRE,


WHICH DOMINATED MAINLAND SOUTH-EAST ASIA
FOR CENTURIES.
THE CITY WAS, BY SOME DISTANCE, THE MOST
EXTENSIVE PRE-INDUSTRIAL METROPOLIS ON OUR
PLANET.
THE KINGS BUILT TEMPLES FOR THEIR GODS: SHIVA,
VISHNU OR THE BUDDHA.
