HOUSING
A place to live is a dwelling / house.
Spatial organisation of these dwelling
units with all the required social and
physical infrastructure is called
housing.
Housing refers to social problem of
ensuring that members of society
have a home in which to live,
whether this is a house , or some
other kind of dwelling , lodging , or

On the basis of
multiuser dwellings
On the basis of
permanency
On the basis of density

FREE STANDING OR DETACHED


Detached: Detached building for a single
dwelling unit . E.g. Bungalow , cottage ,
house, villa. It consist of pair of houses
build side by side or back to back.
Semi- Detached : These are attached from 1
or 2 side either back or side.
Duplex : These includes 2 storey houses
having a complete apartment on each floor.
Multiplex : These consist of more than 3
storeys . These are high rise. E.g.
Apartments.
Stacked row houses : It combines side
attached units with apartments above and
below.

MULTIUSER DWELLING UNIT


Walk-ups : These are generally
3-4 floors high with no lifts .
They are economical type
multiuser units which are low
rise and have low density.
Apartments : They are more
than 4 floors high upto 15
floors with lifts and staircases.
They are very popular these
days and are mid rise.
Skyscrapers : These are high
rise buildings occupied by
multiusers which are above 20
floors. They are high density
high rise.

BASIS OF ECONOMY
HIG High income group have
yearly income more than 5 lakh.
The housing for these have large
areas with luxurious facilities.
MIG- Medium Income group have
yearly income 2-5 lakh.
LIG- low income Group have
income between 1-2 lakh per
year.
EWS- Economically weaker
section. The urban poor with
yearly income below one lakh
are considered under EWS . The
housing for these are affordable
type with lesser area.

BASIS OF PERMANENCY
Kuccha House :These are
temporary houses made of
wood , mud. They are built
for short period of time. They
can be relocated easily. E.g.
Carvan , tents etc.
Semi kuccha : These are
extension to kuccha houses.
E.g. Temporary roof over
brick walls.
Pakka House : They are more
permanent made of RCC ,
brick ,stone. E.g. Flats and
Bungalows
