ABOUT

NSIT Solar Car Concept is a non-profit

organization, founded in 2007, which aim
to build a solar powered race car and represent
INDIA on an international platform.
It is a student run initiative and the
primary goal is to make solar power
practical and affordable.

The team is currently working on

its fourth car, Phoenix-I.

It is one of the only two university level teams in

India that build Solar Electric Vehicles (SEVs) and
the only one that has secured a podium position at
an international event.

HISTORY AND ACHIEVEMENTS

ADVAY I was one
of the cheapest solar
cars in the world and
cost a fraction of the
other cars
participating in the
South African Solar
Challenge 2008.

It secured 2nd position

in its category and
stood 3rd in the
overall rankings in
SASC 2008.
The car was
showcased at multiple
exhibitions across the
country.

ADVAY- II was the

second solar car of the
team. It was designed
and built for the
World Solar
Challenge.

It was showcased at
the National Auto
Expo 2010, New Delhi
and remains one of
the few student
initiatives that have
been exhibited at the
grand event.

ADVAY- III was the

third solar car for
which the students
had worked
tremendously hard
and had to participate
in THE WORLD
SOLAR CHALLENGE
and THE AMERICAN
SOLAR CHALLENGE.

However, some days

prior to the shipping,
the garage picked up
fire and the dream
turned to mere ashes.

PURPOSE OF BUILDING A SOLAR

CAR
To develop a totally
solar powered vehicle
and showcase the
country on International
level.
To help reduce the carbon
footprint of vehicular
emissions by taking steps to
redesign the way we
commute.
Initiating college level
participation of students to
design and create things that can
help make the environment a
better place.

Carbon Footprint
Reduction

We generate 1.2 kilowatt of energy from solar panels on top of

car.
As said by genuine and trusted leaders in this field:
For over 30 years:
606 trees planted
5 cars taken off the road
8 tons of waste recycled rather than landfilled
0.5 tanker trucks of gasoline not burned

Similarly, suppose there are around 10,000 solar cars running

on road with 1KW system then they would have saved enough
carbon dioxide emissions equivalent to planting 60,60,000 i.e.
approximately 60 lakh trees over a period of 30 years.

Why
WhyLithium
Lithiumion?
ion?
Light in weight with almost
same energy density as of lead
acid batteries.
Low loss of charge/month in
comparison to NiMh batteries.
Number of charge/discharge
cycles are high comparatively.

Future Improvements
The durability of li-ion batteries can
be increased by using different
electrolytes for better conduction.
Better options are being developed
like li-air batteries with an energy
density comparable to gasoline.
Conventional electrodes can be
replaced by thicker electrodes from
semi-solid materials.
