Classified of Iron Ores

By Minerals
Iron ores are rocks and
minerals most of whose
deposites are found in
sedimentary rocks. They
formed
from
chemical
reactions that combined
iron and oxygen in marine
and fresh waters. The ores
are usually rich in iron
oxides and vary in color
from dark grey, bright
yellow, deep purple, to
rusty red.

Classified of Iron Ores

By Harmful Impurities

By harmful impurities
(S, P, Cu, Pb, Zn, V, Ti, Co, Ni, Sn, F, As)
Iron Ores can be divided into :
high-sulfur iron ore
low sulfur iron ore
high phosphorus iron ore
low phosphorus iron ore

Classified of Iron Ores

The components of gangue and impurities can
be devides into three groups from the viewpoint
of their bahaviour in a blast furnace :
1.Compounds of elements which do not enter the
hot metal under blast furnace operation
conditions
2.Compound of elements which partially enter
the hot metal
3.Compounds of elements which completely
transfer to the hot metal

Classified of Iron Ores

By Grades
Iron ore is typically classified as
High grade (+65% Fe)
Medium grade (+62 65% Fe)
Low grade (-62% Fe).

(i)Lumpy/Fine Ore
(ii)Natural pellet
(iii)Blue Dust

Classified of Iron Ores

The most essensial requirements on
characteristics of iron ore are :
1.High iron content
2.Minimum of harmful impurities
3.High content of basic oxides in gangue
4.Minimum derivation in chemical composition
5.High reducibility
6.High strength
7.Narrow range of softening temperature
8.Minimum of fines and narrow size distribution
