ENERGY CONSERVATION :
Whatisenergy?
This section covers the concept of energy itself, what it actuallyis. In the
next sections, we'll discuss its various forms, it properties, how its
transferred, how we obtain it, and how we use it.

Fluorescent bumay cost more, but will save you much more in the long
run.
We should not keep lights At Home unnecessarily switched on. Reduce
the energy your appliances consume by analyzing star ratings. Improve
your water heating efficiency to reduce energy costs. Switch of the fans
and lights in At Public the places like bus terminal and railway stations
when not Places necessary. Switch off the street lights. Big Hoardings,
lightened up for the whole evening and nights are other wastage of power
which can be and should be avoided

HOW
WILL IT HELP ? Lets Take an simple example : let us assume electricity is
available for Rs.4.00 per unit , a100 watt bulb is used for 8 hrs a day then:If
we replace a 100 watt bulb with 22 watt CFL , The annual saving would be
Power saved : 100W W = 78W

ENERGY CONSERVATION IN INDIA About 70% of Indias energy

generation capacity is from fossil fuels, with coal accounting for 40% of
Indias total energy consumption followed by crude oil and natural gas at
24% and6% respectively. India is largely dependent on fossil fuel imports
to meet its energy demands. By 2030, Indias dependence on energy
imports is expectedto exceed 53% of the countrys total energy
consumption. In2009-10, the country imported 159.26 million tonnes of
crudeoil which amount to 80% of its domestic crude oil consumptionand
31% of the countrys total imports are oil imports. Thegrowth of electricity
generation in India has been hindered bydomestic coal shortages[ and as
a consequence, Indias coalimports for electricity generation increased by
18% in 2010

4.NON

RENEWABLE ENERGY

Non Renewable energy cannot be

generated again and again , e.g. energy generated from combustion of fossil
fuels, energy from coal and gas etc .

5.Why to conserve energy ?

We have limited fuels available on

earth. Our demand for energy is increasing day- by- day. It is possible that
someday , most of fuels will be exhausted , and we will have to switch over
to alternate energy

6How can we conserve energy Conserving energy means decreasing

the amount of energy used while achieving a similar outcome of end use .
Using less energy has lots of benefits you can save money and help the
environment. using less energy helps us to preserve these resources and
make them last longer in future.

7What can we do ? We can do our bit to save energy . We should not

waste energy in school , at home or at public places

8 In School Always switch off lights and fans while going out of the class.
In computer lab , we should switch off the computers before going out of the
class

9At home We should not keep light and fan unnecessarily switched
on. Watching interesting programs on TV is interesting , but afterwards ,
TV should be should be switched off.

10In Public Places Street lights consume a lot of energy . We can

use the streetlights according to sunset and sunrise to can save
power. Installing solar powered street light is another major option
available to save electricity.

11Conclusion Therefore, we should start saving energy wherever

we are, at home at school, at work and in the neighborhood. Thus,
the earth a place thats convenient and sustainable for our future
generation someday
