Abolition

Genre
Our chosen genre is thriller and involves
a social media catfish theme. We chose
this genre as thrillers are more exciting
and makes your adrenaline rush in
comparison to a romance. We felt we
knew more properties of thriller genre
films than romance films, therefore it
would be easier for us to make a thriller
opening sequence.

Target Audience
Our target audience is anyone who is
associated or uses Facebook and
could be seen as a possible victim.
Our rating for the film opening is 15
as teenagers may be more obliged to
watch it and are foreseen as being
vulnerable.

Plot
The social media facebook has been
hacked by an unknown source and is
sending threatening, disturbing
messages to users. The messages
include notes expecting users to
commit suicide and help to murder
their friends unintentionally. This
links to the title of the film as the
purge gradually makes the nation
abolish.

Opening Scene
Close ups: personal from victims perspective
Mise-en-scene: laptops, dark rooms, hoodies,
shot in a victims and hackers perspective.
Lighting: dark lighting on the hackers side to
represent evil and natural lighting on the
victims side to show innocence, although not
for long. We will also do lighting by editing the
saturation of the scene.
Acting: 2 actors , featuring the hacker and
victim

Narrative
We have chosen to do a dual narrative
so we can see the story in 2
perspectives from the hacker and from
the victim. This will portray the effects
from the victims perspective and the
dangers of online social media sites
which should make the target
audience more aware of social media
sites.

Titles and Credits

Title will be shown at the end of the opening
scene but there will be no credits as neither
Insidious or The Woman in Black, which we
chose to research, had no credits until the end
of the overall film. We thought this was more
affective as hints of the plot are not given to
the audience through the title until the
opening sequence is over. This will ensure the
target audience stays concentrated and
focused on the opening sequence.

Black outs
We will include a black out to build
tension, felt by the audience as they
will become frightened whilst watching
the scene. To ensure the audience
become scared when the black out
occurs, we will have to make sure it is
unexpected and is the peak of a
climax.

Sound
We have chosen to use repetitive
diegetic sounds carried on throughout
the opening sequence as it will
increase the amount of tension and
suspense felt by the target audience
throughout the duration of the opening
sequence.
