ANTENNA & WAVE

PROPAGATION
BIG PICTURE

COURSE OBJECTIVE

To understand the radiation mechanism of antenna and to

have insight into the derivation of field quantities of various
antennas and there by deducing basic parameter of
antenna like gain, directivity, impedance etc
Evaluate the fundamental parameters of antennas and
arrays operating at various frequencies from LF to
Microwave applications
The course also explores the theory and practice of antenna
engineering, including a wide range of antenna types &
applications from LF to Microwave applications recently in
use.
Identify the atmospheric and terrestrial effects on radio
wave propagation
To understand the wave propagation over ground and
through different layers of atmosphere

course overview
The basic objective of antennas and wave propagation
is communication of information from source to
destination
This course explains how antenna converts the
electrical energy into the electromagnetic energy and
vice versa. This course also explains the various types
of transmitting and receiving antennas recently in use.
This also explores the theory and practice of antenna
engineering, including a range of antenna types &
applications. This course explains design metrics of
various antennas in wide spectrum of frequencies, with
primary emphasis on LF, UHF, and microwave regions

Prerequisites

Note
While a rigorous analysis of an
antenna is highly mathematical, often
a simplified analysis is sufficient for
understanding the basic principles of
operation of an antenna.
the conceptual understanding of the
principles of radiation and wave
propagation by keeping the
mathematical analysis to a minimum.
